Entomophobia (noun): an abnormal and persistent fear of insects.
Amy didn't exactly suffer of entomophobia, but insects kind of scared her. She loved little bugs and butterflies, but at the same time she felt kind of weird imagining them on her hand, on her sleeve, on her hair or, more to the point, in her bedroom.
There were two spiders on the wall: one was pretty big, around 3.5 inches if we're counting the length of the legs, the other slightly tinier. Both of them were staying still, but they were also dangerously close to the bed. When she'd walked in a couple of minutes before she didn't even notice them at first. She sat down on the bed and took off her shoes. But when she happened to look upwards her heart skipped a beat and she jumped off the bed and out of the room, slamming the door. After what seemed like an eternity - but was actually 30 seconds - Amy opened the door again with caution and she found herself staring right at the two little friends. The door was shut again.
Crap.
Amy started breathing hard and, unfortunately, thinking hard. What if there were more than two? Was there a nest? Do spiders live in nests? No they don't. But what if they were gone when she walked back in? Were they just gonna live inside forever? What if they crawled inside the covers and- STOP STOP. Amy breathe, breathe.
What if they're poisonous?
Amy frantically grabbed the phone and dialed the number.
°°°°°°°°°°
Spencer had just gone to bed and he'd managed to fall asleep quite quickly. It was 10:26 last time he'd checked.
At 10:32 his phone began ringing. Could it be a case? No, it was too late. He reluctantly raised his head just enough to see who it was.
Amy?
God, he had to answer, didn't he?
"Ames?"
Spencer's voice sounded weird, kind of raspy, just slightly weird, it sounded... sleepy. Damn it, it sounded sleepy.
"Oh my god were you sleeping? It's just 10:30? Why were you asleep at 10:30? I'm sorry I'm not supposed to question your sleeping schedule for no reason, go back to sleep, goodni-" Amy rushed through the words, feeling guilty.
"Wait, wait, wait, why did you call me in the first place?" Spencer interrupted her before she had the chance to hang up.
"Doesn't matter, you need to sleep doctor" Amy tried to cut the conversation off again.
"I'm already awake anyways"
"Hush hush, you can fall back to sleep, come on"
"You know, I read this article that says that the important thing for a good sleeping schedule is always waking up after an amount of time that's a multiple of three. And... well I've actually been asleep for six minutes, so..." Spencer tried to convince her to open up with his usual factual approach.
"Spence, come on..." Amy's voice sounded guilt ridden and Spencer hated it.
"No, really, also, you wouldn't have called me unless you really needed something, you don't exactly ask for help often..." wow, he was really bringing up her self-effacing, reticent side.
"Ames" encouraged her again Spencer.
"There's two spiders in my bedroom"
Spencer didn't process the information right away.
"Sp- two spiders?"
"I told you it would sound ridiculous, byy-" Amy was immediately embarrassed and tried cutting him off again.
