At least the case was over, that's what Amy kept repeating to herself, knowing she'd be stuck in the office for the next two hours to finish off her paperwork.
"Bye Tommy, don't work too hard" greeted her goodbye Derek.
Amy had become friends with everyone on the team. It wasn't hard for her to get friends in any situation. Her openness and friendliness just made everyone glad to talk to her. Though she really got close to the bulky agent after a tough case. She could see he was struggling and she sat down and offered him her comfort cookies. In case you're wondering what those are, Amy always brings a couple of cookies in her backpack to cheer her up in case things go wrong. Derek was kind of confused at first, but then he accepted the newbie's offer. Plus, Amy's cookies were great.
He could already go home because he had finished his paperwork on the jet, along with everybody else, while Amy had been sleeping peacefully and dreaming of flying cars, unicorns and volcanoes. She didn't like paperwork, but she loved the job. She was willing to undergo a little bit of torture.
"How did you sleep Ames?" Spencer's soft voice asked.
"Safe and sound" she replied with an ironic smile, full of regret regarding her past decisions.
"Got some paperwork, I see"
"Did your 187 IQ tell you that?" teased him Amy. Spencer smiled, but felt guilty looking at the lonely light on her desk, the only one turned on in the whole floor.
"That amount of paperwork is gonna take you approximately... 3 hours to complete, according to your usual timings"
"God" said Amy, exasperated, putting her head down and grabbing her ginger curls with her hands.
"Can I lend a hand?" Amy could've melted on the spot. She could recognize Spence's soft voice for when he doesn't wanna hurt you between a thousand. And that voice could've asked her to kill herself and she probably would've.
"Spence, I- go home, read a couple of books and go to sleep"
"But you'll be here... you're not gonna be able to read any books"
"Please?" his voice was the gentlest she had ever heard, the words caressing the darkness of the office. Amy really didn't know what to do, she would have liked to hang out with him and glance at him discreetly while he was typing, studying the curls of his hair and his furrowed brows when he was thinking.
"Okay" said Amy, both glad she had less work to do and guilty making her friend stay late.
"Th-"
"Don't even try thanking me, I should be dedicating you an ode"
"That actually sounds captivating" joked Spence, grabbing a little bit more than half of the paperwork sitting on Amy's desk. A tiny detail that she was too tired to notice.
"I'll make it up to you someday, doc, that's a promise"
"I don't need you to" said Spence smiling to her. If Amy didn't know any better she could've gotten up and hugged him on the spot.
They kept working silently for a while, admiring each other's presence in the dark, feeding off of fast glances and looks. Amy even started listening to music, she felt at home.
After a long while Amy reached the end of her pile. Spencer was looking at the screen.
"Yessss!!!" yelled Amy realizing she was finally done. Dancing happily and rotating her chair.
Her hair looked so pretty when she was spinning. And it was long just enough to cover a part of her beautiful smile. Spencer was undoubtedly staring. But, again, Amy was too tired to notice.
