Spencer had come back to work a couple of weeks before. Amy still felt terrible about... well, everything. But she really wanted to be friends with him again. She'd given up on trying to suffocate her feelings: she was going to acknowledge them and stay JUST friends with him. How hard could it possibly be? Spencer was still doing horrible, as one would expect, but she wasn't gonna let him suffer alone anymore.

"Heeey there, whatcha reading?" Amy started saying awkwardly.

"Dickinson", Spencer was brief and cold.

"Oh, nice, which one?" come on, don't give up on him.

"Envelope poems"

"I haven't read that one" she admitted, studying his facial expressions. Spencer looked up from his book and looked at her. He couldn't push her away any longer: he needed a friend.

"It's good, I think you'd like it" Spencer shot her a quick, yet warm smile. Maybe they could still be fixed, maybe they could get it back. She'd missed his smile.

She'd missed him.

"That's great, but book suggestions isn't exactly the reason why I'm here" she stopped in her tracks  "I still think I can beat you Spencer"

Maybe he could still be her best friend.

"Beat me?"

Amy threw a deck of cards on the table.

"I've practiced, I've gotten better, I can beat you" Amy said with a stone cold expression.

"Okay, if you say so" Spencer said with a shy smirk. A hole was still deep in his heart, but maybe being happy for a little while wouldn't have hurt anyone.

"Come on, just give me a chance" Amy insisted softly.

"Alright" he gave in.

Seeing him soft, caring again was... it made her feel an inexplicable joy.

.

"I can't believe it"

"I knew this day would come!" Amy cheered.

She won!

Amy was laughing light-hearthedly and Spencer had a surprised smile on his face. For a brief time they'd forgotten the months of distance.

Maybe.

Just maybe.

"What do you mean he's been shot?"

"I'm sorry Thomas"

Hotch broke the news to her. Jesus, how many times did he need to get hurt during a case?

"Where?"

Hotch stayed silent.

"Hotc-"

"He was shot in the neck"

"God" Amy whispered barely audible.

"I think he's in surgery right now, Penny should be there"

Amy was tired of being worried about him. Why did he always have to be the one getting hurt?

Just as soon as they were friends again.

"Can I go?"

"Yes, I'll call if we need you"

"Thanks, Hotch" Amy hung up.

She ran out of the police station and got in an SUV, immediately heading to the hospital.
