That Friday went by like an average day would. I went through my classes and didn't go to the library since I had a pile of books to read.
Speaking of Riddle.
Things have been quite awkward between us since last night. We would say hi to each other often, but it felt awkward. Even more awkward than when we we're always mad at each other.
Last night I was drowned in my thoughts. Riddle was on my mind. After last night, when he was acting all fun and excited, he returned back to his normal self: Quiet and reserved.
I lied awake most of the night. Tossing and turning while drowning in my thoughts of Riddle. It felt like last night I unlocked something to him. A side that he had never showed anyone.
A happy side.
Last night when he said that he never felt that way, It made me think:
What was his backstory like? Was his backstory something traumatizing? Is that why he's always a total dick to everyone?
I spent that Friday night reading a book that Tom gave me about creatures in the wizarding world. I hid the book with the leather cover in the drawer so I wouldn't be tempted to touch it of open it. What was in there? I thought.
"Hey," I was interrupted by Pansy bursting into the room, "The Yule Ball is coming up soon, have you picked a dress out for the Yule Ball yet."
"Nope," I shook my head, not looking up at her and keeping my focus on the book.
"What are you reading?" She said while trying to look at the cover.
"A book Riddle gave to me," I told her, "It's about creatures in the wizarding world." I explained.
"Is something going on between you two?" She asked, "Why is he recommending books to you now?"
"I don't know," I shrugged, "I was in the library on Thursday and he came up to me and gave me some book suggestions."
"I see," She nodded, "Anyways, Draco, Blaise and I are going to Diagon Alley to look at dresses and dress robes, wanna join?"
"Sure," I said while closing the book and placing it down on the bed beside me, "Let me get changed really quick.
I got dressed into a black tee shirt and some black ripped jeans. I put on my coat hat and mittens and headed out of my dorm, meeting the others in the common room.
"So whos bringing us to Diagon Alley?" I questioned.
"A bunch of other students are going there," She tells me, "McGonagall is coming so she can help us get there."
"Oh," I nodded my head, "Ok."
...
After a long trip to Diogon Alley and going through several of dresses later I had finally chosen the dress that I wanted for the ball. The dress was black, lace black with some small designs on the skirt and spaghetti straps.
Pansy chose a dress, it was a dark green color and made out of a silky material. The dress was like mine and had spaghetti straps.
Hours later I was in the common room as I kept continuously reading the book based of magical creatures that Tom gave me. That's when I was approached by him. He sat down next to me on the sofa and looked over my shoulder.
"Wow," He mumbled, "You've gotten pretty far in this book. What book is this?"
"It's the one off magical creatures," I said while showing him the cover of the book.
"Do you like it?" He asked.
"No," I said sarcastically.
"You don't like it," He furrowed his eyebrows, "Then why are you reading it?"
"I was joking," I shook my head and chuckled, "It's called sarcasm."
"Obviously," He rolled his eyss, "But seriously, do you like it?"
"Well if I didn't like it then I wouldn't be far in the book," I smirked at him, he rolled his eyes again, "But yeah, I like it. I've been reading it ever since the end of my classes."
" I saw you in Diagon Alley today," He said after a few seconds of awkward silence, "You were getting a dress?"
"Correct," my lips curled into a smirk.
"I was there today," He added on, "I saw you but, I don't think you saw me. I was getting dress robes of course."
"I don't think I saw you," I told him.
"Promise me something," He started.
"And what is that?" I asked him while closing the book and placing it down next to me.
"Act normal at the dance?" He told me, "I know it might be awkward after months of bashing each other, but try to forget that it happened after. Ok?"
"Ok," I lipped curled as I nodded my head slowly up and down, "Sure, even though i said no before."
As I continued to read the book, Tom stayed next to me staring into the crackling fire. After a few minutes he walked away and went back to his dorm, leaving me to read about creatures in the wizarding world.
Not long after him, I went back to my dorm and was greeted by Pansy who was sitting on her bed, finishing up her homework.
"We're you in the common room?" She asked not looking up from her parchment.
"Yep," I nodded and sat down on the edge of my bed.
"You were talking with Riddle?" She furrowed her eyebrows as she closed her potions book.
"How did you know?" I asked her.
"I was in the common room at one point," She explained, "I was going to go ask Malfoy about something, I forgot. I looked over and say you and him talking."
"Yeah," I nodded, "We were talking about one of the books that he gave me. And then ewe talked about the yule ball." I told her.
"So..." She smirked, I rolled my eyes at her, already knowing where she was going to go with this, "Looks like you have an...interest in him."
"Stop it," I mumbled, "This will only last until the Yule Ball is over and I-I just," I think for a moment, "I don't know...I just don't think it will go there."
"I was joking," Her lips curled.
"Yeah, I know," I told her.
After long deep conversation with Pansy for what seemed like hours, I got into my pajamas and got into bed. I read a bit of the book and ended up finishing it before drifting off to sleep.
