Zarah...
Abdul's gentle voice pierced the silence, I stirred from my slumber. "We've arrived," he whispered

I opened my eyes to find us parked in front of our gate. My gaze lit up, and I tried to slide the door open, but Abdul's hand on mine stayed me. I looked up at him, and he flashed me a warm smile. "Your veil," he murmured.

I blushed, realizing it must have slipped off while I was asleep. He  released my hand, and I quickly opened the car door, stepping out into the warm evening air. The gate is  open, so I walked in, my eyes scanning the familiar surroundings.

Chuchu's bright laughter caught my attention, and I spotted him playing with his friends. "Chuchu!" I exclaimed, my voice filled with excitement. He turned around, his eyes lighting up like stars, and screamed, "Aunty Zarah !"

In a flash, he is  running towards me, his little legs moving swiftly. I scooped him up in a tight hug, marveling at how much he'd grown. "Hey, little rat has grown up," I joked , pinching his chubby cheeks.

Chuchu giggled,"Aunty zarah , you brought my ball?"

I chuckled, God, Chuchu, I forgot, but I'll definitely buy it for you," I promised, smiling.

"When?" he asked, his eyes wide with excitement.

"Insha Allah, maybe tomorrow," I replied, ruffling his hair.

Chuchu's face lit up, and he grinned, already looking forward to tomorrow.

I burst into the kitchen, calling out "Ammi, Ammi!" with infectious enthusiasm. Chuchu pointed towards the cabinet, and I followed the direction, my eyes locking onto Ammi's warm smile. I flung my arms around her waist, holding her tight. "My Ammi, I've missed you so much!" I exclaimed, my laughter filling the room.

But my joy is  momentarily interrupted by a sharp pain on my head, courtesy of Ya Hafiz's gentle yet firm tap. I turned to face him, feigning hurt. "God, Ya Hafiz, no love for your favorite sister?"

He raised an eyebrow, "Baki iya gaisuwa bah koh?" reminding me to greet him properly.

I grinned "Wallah, Ya Hafiz, I didn't miss you at all," I joked, "but I did miss raiding your wallet." I winked, adding, "And don't think I've forgotten about that ice cream debt from before my wedding!"

He chuckled, Ke kifita ido na..." he muttered shaking his head

"Where's your husband " Ya Hafiz asked

I gestured casually. "Outside.

Ammi, what' are you cooking? Wallah, I'm starving!"

"Masa!" "Wow, my mouth is watering right now!" Hafiz, please go and bring him in, Ammi murmured.

"Fatima, why are you so careless? Ammi asked, looking at me"You're so grown up, yet you still act like a child."

Ammi, what have I done now? It seemed like they weren't happy about my visit, and they didn't miss me as much as I missed them.Wayyo, Aunty Ramla is the only person I miss. Let me go call her." Ammi just shook her head, and I headed towards my room, feeling a bit down. As I entered my room, I couldn't help but feel nostalgic. I removed my jewelry and kept it aside before performing my prayers.

Afterwards, I heard Ammi calling my name, so I answered and went to the kitchen without looking at her. "Ammi, I'm here," I called out. She instructed me to take the food to Abdul, as he might be hungry. I spotted him in the parlor, engrossed in his phone. I placed the tray in front of him, snatching the phone away. "Time to eat, no more phone for now!"

As I opened the warmers, the aroma of Waina and Miyan Taushe wafted out, and my stomach growled with hunger. I scooped up a generous serving and began eating, with Abdul sitting beside me. He remained silent, and I suddenly remembered that the food isn't for me. "Sorry, Abdul. Open your mouth, let me feed you,"

But he shook his head, I'm not hungry."

"Come on, don't be shy! Ammi must hear this - her very handsome son-in-law won't eat the food she cooked because it looks too local to him, right?" "You're not fooling me with that excuse, Abdul. You eat five times a day, and now you're claiming you're full?"

He  chuckled and explained, "Honestly, I don't usually eat traditional foods like this.

I interrupted him, "Well, then you have to try it today!" I encouraged him, but he hesitated. Eventually, I convinced him to take a bite, but he struggled to finish it and ended up feeling unwell. I felt sorry for him as he admitted that he hasn't been used to eating these traditional dishes since he was young.

As he prepared to leave, Abdul handed Ammi almost 200,000 naira.

I'll miss you a lot, babe."

I leaned on his arm as we got into the car, replying, I'll miss you more."

He caressed my cheeks with his hand, and I felt a pang of longing. "Take care of yourself for me, please

As the car engine purred to life, Abdul hit the road, not stopping anywhere. I snuggled into his arm, peppering his cheeks with gentle kisses.

"Babe, move; I don't want us to get into an accident," he laughed.

No, I won't," twirling his beard around my fingers.

"Abdul, I crave ice cream," I whispered, my breath tickling his ear.

He smiled, eyes on the road. "Your wish, my command."He stopped at Sidi and Sons Mall, telling me to choose whatever I wanted. And, wallahi, I think I almost craved everything there! Afterward, he drove me back home, and I started missing him the moment he left. I smiled to myself, thinking, "Let me call Ama during my free time..."
