"Well, if you want the truthful answer, Phil," I spoke up, taking a glance at Shay who was furiously shaking his head with wide eyes.
I could've stopped it right there. I should've taken that as a massive red flag to keep my mouth shut. I should've fucking waited for Shay to say something. when he was ready. And yet, I didn't.
"Shay is my mate."
The room fell silent and slowly the atmosphere began changing from one of peace to one of danger. Again, I should've taken that as a sign to grab Shay and run, but I didn't.
I looked to Shay just in time to see him turn his head away from me and towards his dad with utter fear. It seemed that the moment I took my eyes off Phil and him and Shay made eye contact was when he finally snapped.
Plates and cutlery flew everywhere as Phil's rage finally emerged and he flipped the table, sending it flying across the room and breaking it in half. Glass shattered against the now food covered wooden floor. My parents and I didn't even have enough time to react before Phil pinned Shay against the wall, his hand around Shay's delicate neck.
From his tone, I could tell he was spitting vile things into Shay's face but I heard none of it. My heartbeat wildly in my chest and I felt my bones itching to shift so I could kill the bastard. I mustered up as much control as I could so I wouldn't pounce on his back and rip out his spine.
Now it was my turn to snap.
I raced towards Phil, tackling him onto the floor and giving him a couple of good beats to the face, easily breaking his nose and sending blood splattering over his face and onto the floors. We both struggled for dominance and I had to say it was beginning to get difficult to hold him down. He saw my struggle and flipped it so he was on top with an evil smirk. He gave a few effortless punches and wrapped his hands around my neck, just like he had with Shay.
Dallas growled viciously as he fought to take control over my body, screaming at me to let him take control. One thing you do not do to an Alpha unless you have an actual death wish is to harm their mate. Nine times out of ten, if you lay a finger on an Alpha's mate you will be killed personally by the Alpha himself. And he dared do it in front of me.
I kicked his stomach, sending him back onto the floor with me on top of him yet again. Punch after punch I caved in the man's face. I didn't leave any time for him to protect or even raise his hands to his face. I have to say he had the guts to lay a single finger on Shay in front of me. The pictures of Shay's struggling form against the wall only urged my anger on more and I could slowly feel myself no longer able to fully control myself.
"Dom!" A familiar, yet hoarse, voice called out to me.
I froze in place, my anger finally settling down aa I looked over to him. He looked worn out, with tears swarming up in those gorgeous bright blue eyes of his. I let go of my hold on Phil's blood-stained shirt, giving him a final death glare before running over to Shay.
"Are you okay?" I asked, checking his face which seemed fine until I glanced down at his neck and saw the angry red marks left.
He nodded his head and I quickly embraced him into a hug, his scent instantly calming all my nerves, worry and rage and finally settling Dallas down. His arms shook as he wrapped them around my neck and nuzzled his nose in my neck.
We only parted when Lilith came rushing down the stairs with a backpack in each hand, hurrying over to me and handing them over.
"I've packed your stuff," she announced, looking to Shay, clearly shaken by everything that just happened. "You should go before he gets the strength to get up." She spoke, turning to me this time.
