The rest of Jasper's group scattered, knowing full well that they would be torn to pieces if they had stayed any longer. I shifted back to my human form and backed away, my sister ran to her mate's side, screaming in pain from the loss of her other half.

"What did you do?!" She screeched at me.

"He proposed the fight," I said. "You're an idiot if you think I would have shown him any mercy after what you two did."

She looked up at me through the tears streaming down her face.

"You know," I started. "I never thought that that bastard my mate calls a father would be right about you but he was. You betrayed this pack."

"What?" My mother came from beside me.

"She was the one who handed Shay over to Jasper," I said. "We were looking for you Trin and yet all this time you were working with the enemy."

"Is that true?" My mother asked, her lip quivering.

Trinity glanced down at the floor, looking for some way to deflect my statement but when she came up with nothing she just clutched her mate's corpse tighter, bringing it closer to her as a source of comfort.

"You betrayed your own family for him?" My mother scoffed, a tear rolling down.

My mother walked away quietly, back into the packhouse with my father quickly hurrying inside after her.

"I hereby ban you from entering our pack territory," I say. "Jake will escort you out."

She stood up to rush over to me but my Delta grabbed ahold of her before she could grab me and dragged her away. I entered the packhouse after my parents where I noticed my parents sat in the living room. My dad was comforting my mum, crying her eyes out with her head in her hands. A pang of guilt hit me but I knew it was best to leave her with my dad for now.

I limped my way upstairs back to the medicinal ward where I was met with Terrance once more, stood beside my mate's now sleeping human form. My eyes widened in shock.

Terrance smiled over at me. "He managed to muster up enough energy to shift back, I examined him and his injuries are quite severe but not life-threatening."

"So, he's going to be okay?" I sighed in relief, gripping my mate's hand. Hoping for him to squeeze back.

"He should be, yes," Terrance said. "He just needs rest, lots of rest."

He nodded over to my bad leg. "Looks like you managed to get yourself hurt too, hop up on the bed here and I'll take a look at it."

I obeyed his command, hopping onto the bed beside Shay's while he rolled my pant leg up, observing my injured leg. As expected it was a large bite with blood flowing out of it, but it didn't look to be tooooo serious. I watched as Shay slept, breathing in and out peacefully. His face, calm and not as he had just been through hell. I was glad he got some sort of peace, at last, it was the least he deserved.

I hissed through my teeth as Terrance patted and poked the area around my new injury which was still bleeding.

"You should be okay," Terrance insisted. "You'll need some stitches, get it cleaned and some bandages and you should be alright in a few days."

Like Terrance has said, my injuries had healed in a matter of days, I was now walking normally and the area of my injury would leave a scar, not that I cared much. Wolves took pride in most of their battle scars, it showed what they had survived. So, I didn't mind mine much.

While I was fine, Shay, on the other hand, still hadn't woken up after almost two weeks. Terrance assured me that this was to be expected, that we just had to be patient but my worries won't die down until the moment he wakes up. That being said I sat beside his bed every day in hopes of him waking up, I just wanted to see those dark blue ocean eyes open, for him to smile at me.

Terrance even let me sleep in the bed beside Shay most nights when I hadn't fallen asleep on the chair beside Shay. Not many people visited Terrance, which was quite surprising, but those that did didn't stay long so essentially we had the whole room to ourselves except for Terrance who came in to regularly check up on Shay.

It was revealed that Shay had a few broken ribs from the beatings he endured, but also the whip lashes that covered his back were deep and sure to leave dark scars. The rope burns around his wrists were starting to fade nicely but even that was taking some time and Terrance had assumed that Shay probably had damaged vocal cords, which were luckily temporary.

So it was safe to say his recovery was taking a long time.

It was another day where I was sitting beside his bed, the sun beaming through the windows and onto both of our bodies. I waited for him to wake up, even though I knew I wouldn't be getting what I wished for. I gripped his hand, entangling our fingers together as I looked up to him. My head was placed on the bed under one of my arms, positioned so I could just stare at him. It made me feel at ease to know he wasn't in pain when he was unconscious, or so I hoped.

I closed my eyes, finding comfort from the warm sun beaming down on my back until I eventually slipped into unconsciousness, sleep deprivation finally taking over.

The next time I awoke I had something warm brushing my hair, gentle strokes petting my hair as if it was the softest thing on the planet. My eyes fluttered open, squinting them as the sunlight shone painfully in my eyes. When I had finally adjusted to the bright light in the room I looked up to what was on top of my head.

A hand, which led to an arm which then led to a torso, a neck and finally a head. My eyes widened.

"Morning sleepyhead," Shay smiled gently.

I leapt up from my chair, knocking it back against the floor as I embraced him in a tight hug. He hugged back instantly.

"How long was I out?" He whispered into my ear.

"Two weeks," I answered.

"Holy shit."

"Are you okay though?" I frowned. "Are you in any pain? Discomfort? Anything?"

"A little sore here and there but I'm doing okay," he shrugged. "I can live with it."

We loosened our grip on each other as we both stepped back. I sat on the edge of his bed, just staring while he stared back with a gentle smile. The smile I was wanting to see again for so long.

"Ya know," he chuckled, looking away from me, scratching his neck awkwardly. "The first thought I had when I woke up was well, you know, that to avoid any of this happening again and whatnot weshouldmaybemateassoonaspossible."

He rushed the end of his sentence, blushing profusely. It took me a second to untangle his words and finally realise what he said.

"Oh." My eyes shot open.

"Oh," I smirked.

He glanced over at me, his face becoming even redder than before as he saw the smirk on my lips.

"Just say the word," I chuckled. "We can do it as soon as you're fully healed."

"Oh," he said. "Well, I was actually thinking we could do it now."
