So, after an awkward introduction to Dominic's Beta and the pack doctor, we were left alone in the infirmary because Dominic kept insisting for me to get back into bed and rest. Then my dumbass stomach decided to growl louder than any wolf in their entire life has, and so now I was sitting up in my bed happily eating away at the delicious Domino's pizza Dominic had ordered for me.
I definitely didn't beg him from pizza after he asked what I wanted. Pfft, nooo don't be ridiculous...
"Can I ask why you were late?" I asked, stuffing my face with the last slice of pizza from the box. "I don't mean to be a dick and make you seem like the bad guy who wasn't there in time, I'm just genuinely curious."
"I had a meeting," he sighed, casting his eyes to the ground. "Jordan insisted on hosting one, although to be completely honest I have no idea what it was about because I couldn't focus on half of it."
"Why's that?" I frowned.
"Goddess this is going to sound cheesy," he whispered. "But I was thinking about you."
My eyes widened. Damn. He actually cares about me...? I smiled to myself, feeling the tips of my ears and my cheeks begin to warm up, as well as my chest.
"Thank you," I blurted out of awkwardness. "F-for the pizza and for getting there when you did."
"I'm sorry I didn't get there sooner."
"All I care about is the fact that you were there when I needed you, a lot of people in my life don't do that."
"Okay then," the corners of his mouth turned upwards into a small and almost unnoticeable smile. "Do you want me to take you home? Your parents must be worried by now, it's early in the morning."
"Nah, truthfully I don't really think they're worried - they never are - they'll probably be irritated that they don't know where I am."
"Why would they be irritated?" He frowned.
"No idea, they always are," I shrugged.
"Have they always been like this?"
"No," I smiled sadly. "They just started drastically changing after my younger sister passed away. I was about sixteen by then and my mum quit her job as she spiralled into depression. My dad turned his sadness into anger and he started drinking and he just turned into a sour old man, always disappointed with everything I do. That's really when I started working at the cafe, since mum wasn't working anymore and dad was busy with pack duties I was left to bring in the money."
"I'm sorry about your sister, I would've loved to meet her." He said sympathetically.
"She would've liked you," I chuckled. "She always loved to be picked up and thrown in the air, even though she was twelve by then. I couldn't pick her up at the time cuz I basically had stick as arms so she'd always jump onto my dads back as a signal for him to throw her in the air. That's probably the only reason she'd like you," I teased with a small smirk.
"What, me and my muscles?" He scoffed. "Also, you still have sticks as arms."
"Wow, that's just cruel," I sighed dramatically, placing a hand over my heart and pretending to act hurt. "I work ou- well I go for runs, but still."
"Uh-huh," he smirked. "Sure."
"I do!" I glared.
Our teasing was cut short when the pack doctor, who I learned was named Terrance, entered the room, shutting the door quietly behind him and turning around with a kind smile.
