I was walking through the snow; the cold flooding my senses, the icy wind, accompanied by snowflakes that fell from the sky, blew, scraped and punished my skin. I was in the middle of a forest, with some skates hanging on my back, as I was heading to an ice rink that was nearby, on the outskirts of a town somewhat distant from mine. The bus did not get there due to the amount of snow, so I decided to walk the rest of the way, risking getting cold.
It took a few hours between breaks that I had to pass to finally reach my destination, the little town on the other side. The skating rink that was located there was famous for its large size, as it was a lake that froze every winter. This year, however, it was going to be accompanied by a most unexpected visit, but certainly one of the most comforting and special.
I got to the ice rink and I could see many young people skating and throwing snowballs at each other. There were also children, families and couples, but no sign of my dwarf, it seemed that he had been delayed. I decided to skate on my own, alone, while seeing the scenery. I liked to get around on the ice and enjoy the speed that I could reach with my skates, but no matter how much time went by, my appointment not came. Many of those who were there when I arrived had already left and other people had been there for a while, but he still did not appear.
I decided to sit in a space where there was no snow, waiting and waiting, almost giving in to the dream of boredom. I was alone, everyone was accompanied except me, and it was very cold. I came up with the idea of going to the town and buying something warm and comforting, because the cold was beginning to weigh, but my mind kept asking me to wait for him, to stay in the same place, without moving "He may appear at any moment " That was a recurring thought and, therefore, I never moved from the site. But the minutes went by, and with them the hours. Nothing, there was no sign of him.
It was then that I decided to get up from the site, to undo the laces of the skates and put my boots back on. He wasn't coming... Maybe he had forgotten the date, or maybe he had no intentions, but, of course, he was nowhere to be seen as time ticked by. I adjusted my coat and scarf well to avoid being cold and I started to leave.
So much time waiting and so many things I had to do before I got there so that he didn't even deign to send me a message saying that he was not going to come. I started heading towards the town to go home when, suddenly, I heard a voice behind me, in the distance, calling out my name. I stopped short and my heart began to pound, my eyes widening. "Bofur?" I said surprised. I turned around and, to my surprise, he was running towards me with a few flowers in one hand and some skates in the other.
"Wait lass! I just ran into you..." he said as he kept running, as fast as if he was being chased by a pack of dogs or even a bear.
I laughed lightly at his rush.
"Please, wait," he said when he was already reaching me.
I crossed my arms and arched an eyebrow with a smile as a sign of "You took too long, is your ass heavy?" while I still did not move from the site, waiting for him to arrive despite the fatigue and the cold that he seemed to carry. Once he came to me, the first thing he did was hold out his hand and offer me the flowers; most were white, but there were also red and yellow.
"They're... For ye... Lassie..." he said in his broken voice, breathing hard. I took them with a blush on my cheeks and looked at his face, now smiling. I started laughing again."What happens?" he asked me.
"Your mustache is frozen..."
He touched it with his hands and saw that it was true, but he didn't pay much attention to it.
"You don't know how long it took me to find these flowers... Each one in a different place... That forest is so huge..." he said.
I kept raising an eyebrow.
