You awake with a start, your entire body jolting as you come to, gasping for air, reaching out to try and grasp nothing in particular.

"Easy! Easy!" A familiar masculine voice echoes from a distance, the sound of rapid footfalls approaching you following closely behind as the source of the sounds becomes clear to you.

"Tony?" You muse aloud, your own voice hoarse as you begin to cough and splutter, your eyes squeezing shut as a harsh pain erupts in your side.

"Yeah, hey. It's me," He smiles softly, as you pry your eyes open, the familiar features of his face setting your nervous coughing fit at ease. "You're okay. You're okay, Honey."

With a relieved sigh, you allow your head to fall back on the pillow beneath you, the sound of a chair squeaking next to you reaching your ears as a warm pressure resonates with you in the palm of your hand.

Neither of you say anything, the beeps and whirs of the medical equipment filling the silence.

However, your now clear mind continues to pester you with thoughts.

"How long have I been out?" You murmur, wincing as you begin to pull yourself to a sitting position, allowing your gaze to wander around your surroundings before resting on the man next to you.

You're in a hospital.

Plain whitewashed walls, that disgustingly clean smell lingering everywhere...

"Not long," He replies with a shrug, not taking his eyes off you. "About 24 hours or so."

"24 hours?" You repeat in disbelief, "Twenty-four hours?!"

"That is what I just said."

"Tony, that's an entire day!" You exclaim, realization clicking as your gaze wanders your Partner over once again.

His clothes are all disheveled, hair sticking every-which way and there's tell-tale dark bags under his brown eyes that cause you to grimace.

"You've been here, haven't you?" You murmur, your tone much softer than before your gaze lowering from his momentarily before it snaps up to his once more. "Please tell me you've gotten some rest since Satur-"

He simply shakes his head, fighting back an ironic yawn.

"You need to go home. Go get some rest."

"Not until you're out of this godawful place."

You heave a heavy sigh, once more wincing at the pain in your side.

"Broken ribs?"

"Yep," Tony hums, pulling up the x-rays they'd somehow managed to take while you weren't in the land of the living onto the TV in front of you. "That and a broken wrist, plenty of pulled leg muscles, severely strained neck... You're lucky you didn't break your neck after that stunt you pulled, Y/N."

He crosses his arms, his now stern looking gaze meeting your still slightly dazed one.

"I didn't have any other choice!" I protest as his gaze softens slightly. "It was either that or get my throat slit by some psycho HYDRA agent!"

"I'm sorry," He sighs, taking a seat beside you once more. "I'm still trying to figure out how J.A.R.V.I.S let them in or how they let him let them in... Either way, what happened on Saturday is my fault."

You let the initial shock of his words run through you before you turn to face him, a smile pulling at your lips.

"That's a first. The great Tony Stark, admitting he slipped up!" You joke as he rolls his eyes, chuckling lightly.
