Prompt: See above
****
It had been a tough one, that's for sure.
One of the more tricky missions you'd been on in a long while.
But, you were one of the few lucky ones.
You made it out with just a few scrapes and bruises.
Well, other than a gather deep gash on your lower abdomen from some creep who'd jumped on you from behind when you weren't looking as well as a slightly sprained ankle...
You're fine.
You're alive.
Huffing, you practically throw your aching body into your apartment's living room couch, quickly sinking into the soft cushions.
"What a day," You hum to yourself as you cue up the TV screen in front of you, the sounds of one of your favourite TV shows beginning to fill the quiet space around you. "What a day..."
Time just seems to vanish as your show continues to roll along, episode after episode.
And soon enough, you feel your eyelids beginning to get heavy, the nagging prospect of sleep taunting you from the back of your thoughts.
I can't sleep.
If I even close my eyes, I'll be forced to re-live today again and again.
That's one of the downsides of being a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent.
Action. Too much action.
Every time you have to go out in the field and a firefight ensues, the few nights after, you can never sleep.
Your co-workers and friends all suggest that you see the on-site therapist to try and see if getting it off your chest might help your mind.
But, you continually refuse.
Your stubbornness not willing to let you allow other people to help you.
Well... other than one particular individual, that is.
A man most people know as a superhero, as patriotic as they come.
That man is Steve Rogers.
Who somehow, managed to worm his way past your stubborn blockade and right into your feelings.
When he first noticed your evidently weary, bleary eyed state a few days after a mission you and he had been Partnered up on, he was instantly concerned for you.
And through his genuine concern, he gently began to console you, assuring you that he'd always have your back.
It started out as a simply platonic friendship.
But, after some time, you both had realized that the stage of 'just friends' began to run deeper than just the simple 'I got your back' and into 'if you died, I don't know what I'd do without you.'
Were you dating?
Officially, no.
Technically?
I guess?
Mulling that thought over a bit as you resist the urge to succumb to the depths of sleep and begin your mind's usual torture, you can't help but feel a pang of loneliness and longing.
I could really would kill to have him here with me right about now.
It's strange that Steve hasn't called to check up on you after a long day.
