Of course.
Rain, wind, thunder and lightning all decide to make their presence known.
Smack dab in the middle of a rather crucial part to the so called 'mission' you and your Partner are currently on.
"Isn't this nice," His familiar tone sounds through the small earpiece in your ear, filled with sarcasm.
"Yeah, totally nice. Gotta love the rain," You reply, equally as sarcastic, though you wince as a slight trace of worry falls into your tone.
He's gonna notice that.
You know Bucky Barnes better than anyone else.
And he can read you like a book.
"You good over there?" Bucky's genuinely conncerned voice filters through the device in your ear, sending your heart into a tizzy, momentarily overriding your fear of the weather surrounding you.
"I think so?" You mumble, trying to phrase it as a statement rather than a question.
However, as a much louder clap of thunder crackles all around, you instinctively let out a yelp of surprise, your slightly damp body shaking.
"That certainly didn't sound like you're all good," Your Partner grumbles, compassion and concern still evident. "I'm heading over to you."
"But you need to be watching-"
"The streets are clean. No one's venturing out under this rain."
Bucky's chatter in your ear stops momentarily as you slouch against the brick wall behind you in the warehouse you'd been perched up in, keeping an eye out for your potential target which was a no-show.
And now I'm stuck here... in the middle of a thunderstorm...
Another harsh round of thunder rumbles your surroundings, the quickly darkening sky dazzling with streaks of lightning.
You involuntarily whimper, shrugging the sniper that had been on your shoulder towards the ground and pulling your legs to your chest.
See, thunderstorms had always petrified you.
Ever since lightning struck your house when you were just a young girl and ignited the whole thing into a heaping ball of flames...
I'm fine. I'm okay.
It's raining.
What happened then was dry lightning.
This isn't the same.
But, no matter how much you try and reassure yourself with solid facts, the booming of thunder and the occasional streak of lightning illuminating your darkening surroundings, your mind gets the best of you.
So much so, you barely hear the heavy footsteps echoing towards you, splashing through puddles as they near.
"Hey, hey, hey," Someone murmurs from above you, the footsteps ceasing as the newcomer hastily stoops to one knee, getting closer to your curled up, shaking form.
Tearing your gaze from the cement floor, you lift your head towards the source of the voice, letting a weak smile tug at your lips.
Bucky is at your side now, his dark blue jacket evidently darker with the down pour of rain he would have had to run through to get to you, though his eyes calmly rest on you, worry shining there.
"We're not scared of a little thunder and lighting, are we?" He teases playfully while you roll your eyes with a soft chuckle, thankful for his humour.
"Yes, actually, I am," You nod tensely as your Partner joins you at your side, settling his back against the wall similar to you. "Bad memories from when I was young, that's all."
Bucky just nods slowly, seeming to ponder something over, though he doesn't speak his mind.
The pair of you sit there for some time, hunkered down in the darkness of the warehouse, the steady patter of rain against the tin roof of the warehouse ricocheting off of everything and rattling around in your skull.
"Sam said he won't be able to get to us 'till morning," Bucky sighs heavily, sliding the phone back into the pocket of his jacket before turning to face you.
"Great," You groan, slumping further down the wall, squeezing your eyes shut in a vain attempt to block out the noise and focus on anything else but what is happening around you.
You know Bucky is watching you - you can practically feel his steely blue gaze burning into the side of your head - But you don't bother to say anything, knowing that he'll speak his mind when he feels ready.
So, the night begins to stretch on, the both of you sitting against a cold, damp brick wall of some abandoned warehouse, neither of you speaking, the only sound coming from either of you is your mingled breaths.
The rain and the wind and the thunder and lightning all seem to be lessening as time goes by.
Maybe I'm just getting sleepy and my senses are blocking out the white noise.
But, as nature would have it, the loudest clap of thunder decides to rumble viciously, causing you to bolt upright in surprise, once more letting out a startled yelp, your breathing erratic.
Casting your gaze to where your Partner is still seated beside you, his once closed eyes are now open and staring right back at you.
Without a single word, you watch as Bucky shifts himself closer to your trembling figure, reaching out and wrapping his good arm around your torso, gently pulling you into his side.
The sudden contact surprises you slightly, though you don't complain.
The feeling of his firm, sturdy form against your shaking one is a welcome relief, his body heat also decreasing your shivering.
"Thanks," Is all you can really muster up the courage to say, tentatively laying your head against his shoulder.
Bucky softly hums in reply, giving you a reassuring squeeze.
"I've got you, okay?" He breathes, bringing his other hand towards your lap, allowing you to take his hand in yours. "You should probably get some sleep. Like I said earlier, we won't be getting out of here 'till tomorrow morning."
You let out an ironic yawn, snuggling closer into your Partner's side, absentmindedly playing with his prosthetic hand in yours.
"We both should get some sleep. You also said earlier that no one will be venturing out under this rain, so it's not like we have to worry about unwanted guests."
With another soft chuckle, Bucky just mumbles something incomprehensible under his breath, before gently pressing his lips to your forehead, earning a lopsided sleepy grin from you.
Maybe being trapped inside an old warehouse in the middle of a thunderstorm with no one but Bucky Barnes isn't so bad after all.
