[Pt. 3] Trust (Bucky Barnes X Reader)

The final part in the AU where Bucky joins the Avengers after being brought in by Steve after Civil War where the divide of the Avengers never occurred. While on your mission to take down a HYDRA cell in Northern Canada, you suffer a wound while saving your Partner's life. He manages to get the pair of you back home and you awake in a hospital, Bucky at your side.

It had all happened so fast.

One moment you're throwing yourself at your Partner as you both collapse behind the only piece of cover that had been present in the specific patch of freezing Canadian wasteland...

And the next, your face meets the cold snow while pain erupts through your entire body, your vision and consciousness instantly struggling.

Bucky's grip under your shoulders as he had hauled you from where you had been laying barely resonates with you, the overwhelming sensation of pain ebbing anything else out until it faded away completely.

The last thing you remember for certain before going under and into the depths of unconsciousness was looking into the steely blue eyes of James Buchanan Barnes which had been so full of worry and concern for you it was almost overwhelming.

But for some reason, as you drift along in the void of unconsciousness, you can't recall why he would be concerned.

I'm fine, right?

No, I'm not fine.

Yes I am.

No! I'm unconscious from blood loss and pain! I was shot, for heaven's sake!

I'll be fine.

No! I am not fine!

You groan in pain as your consciousness momentarily surfaces, the distant sound of machine gun fire meeting your dampened senses.

"You're alright. I've got you. You're okay." A familiar voice urges softly as a swell of wanting rises within you as you sink back into unconsciousness again, like a wave crashing over you.

I can't stay here!

I need to be there! In real-time.

You battle the current dragging you down,  the surface just beginning to become visible again as consciousness returns yet again.

"She'll be okay, Buck," Another, familiar tone sounds from just outside your reach, still dampened by the walls of water surrounding you and keeping you down. "They'll look after her good here."

"I don't doubt that, but I'm staying here." The same voice that had comforted you when the distant clatter of machine gun fire had managed to break through your muted senses.

"Alright," The other voice chuckles, sounding calm and at ease.

There's no sound of a war zone. No gunfire and screaming.

In fact, as you let your dampened senses focus on your own body, there's not as much pain either.

"Just let us know if you need anything at all, okay?"

"I will."

That's the last thing you hear before you're dragged back down by the current for what seems like the thousandth time, this time, not having any strength left to fight back.

So you just let yourself sink to the bottom, silent sobs wracking your body.
