Meredith disappeared upstairs to get the twins while Derek stayed with Mae...Mae stood up and walked around the room...looking at all the family pictures with admiration...they looked like such a happy family...Derek watched her silently...reviewing all her qualifications in his head...this was an important job...she had to be damn near perfect for them to hire her..

Mae: You know...I'm not afraid of you Mr. Shepherd...
Derek: Call me Derek...
Mae: Ok Derek...I'm not afraid of you...
Derek: No?
Mae: Nope...I've been on a lot of nanny interviews and this is the first one that I've been on where the dad is also present....it's very refreshing...
Derek: You think so?
Mae: Yep...I do...you're a real softy...your bark is worse than your bite...
Derek: I don't bite...
Mae: Maybe not...but you do have claws...especially when it comes to your babies...I can tell by the pictures...
Derek: (chuckles)...So I've been told...
Mae: I can respect that...Its cool...
Derek: (smiles)...Thanks Mae...its nice to be understood...
Mae: You know I have to tell you...I really love your music...
Derek: Oh yeah?
Mae: Yep...
Derek: Thanks...we should be starting back on tour next month...do you go to concerts?
Mae: Um... a few...concert tickets are outrageously expensive...but I've been to all the Matchbox 20 concerts...Rob Thomas is a hottie...
Derek: (smirks)....So you like Rob Thomas huh?
Mae: Oh yes...I'm a huge fan...you know I met him once...he gave me his autograph and everything...I like him better solo...you know you should go solo too...no offense to your band and all...they're great...but I think you hide behind them....even though you're up front...I think you're ready...
Derek: (chuckles)...You think so huh?
Mae: Uhuh...(puts her hand over her mouth)...Oh God...I'm talking way too much...you'll have to excuse me...I can be very opinionated when it comes to music...I love music...music is life...
Derek: "Music is life"...I like that...and I like that you have opinions about music...(smirks)...even if you are a Rob Thomas fan...
Meredith: (enters the room with the twins)...Who's a Rob Thomas fan?
Derek: Mae... (chuckles)..I think she needs her head checked.
Mae: (giggles)...My head is perfectly fine Mr. Shepherd...I mean Derek...

As Meredith returned with the twins...Mae quickly hopped up and rushed over to them...she immediately took Sadie from Meredith's arms and started walking around the room with her as Meredith and Derek continued to talk to her about the job...Meredith placed Shane on the baby floor gym and sat next to Derek...Derek pulled her closer to him and began to nibble on her ear...

Derek: I missed you...
Meredith: I missed you too..
Derek: Prove it...

Mae giggled as the horny couple started a mini make out session right in front of her...

Mae: (grins)...Are you two always like this?
Derek: Like what?
Mae: (grins)...Unable to keep your hands off of each other...
Meredith: (smiles)...Yes...
Derek: (smiles)...Always...
Mae: (smiles)...Ok...just give me fair warning before the clothes start falling off...
Meredith: (giggles)...Sounds fair...
Derek: (chuckles)...Deal...

She placed Sadie on the baby floor gym with Shane and sat with both of them...laughing and playing with them...she seemed so comfortable with them right away and the twins seemed to take to her immediately...Meredith and Derek watched her intently as she interacted with the twins...stealing knowing looks at each other...both sensing that Mae would be the perfect for the job...

Meredith: So Mae...if you're in nursing school...will you only be available to be with us up until you graduate and find a job?
Mae: Well...I'm only going part time...so it will take me a few more years to finish...I'm not in a rush...as long as things are going well...I would stay for as long as you needed me...
Derek: We would only need you part time but we are not paying you for your time...we're paying for quality...we want the best for our babies and money is no object...we're not looking for someone to raise our children...that's our job...we just want someone to be able to step in when we need them too....
Mae: Ok...I get that...sort of like a baby sitter...
Derek: Exactly...only in-house...
Mae: (eyes wide)...You mean I get to stay here...in this house...
Meredith: (smiles)...Well...you can pick out one of the guest bedrooms upstairs to use just so that you can have your own personal space when you're here and we need you to stay overnight with the twins...but we also have a guest house on the property that you could stay in as well...its not much...but its yours if you want it...it would be nice to have you close by...
Derek: (wraps his arm around Meredith)...Meredith is being modest Mae...she decorated the guest house herself...its pretty amazing...you'd love it...
Mae: Wow...I...uh...
Derek: And we need to get you a car...it says here that your driving record is impeccable...not even a parking ticket...is that right?
