Chapter 229

Mark and Cristina stood on stage trying to kill the time as they waited for Meredith and Derek to arrive at the banquet center...

Mark: So as we continue to wait for the guests of honor...maybe we should...
Cristina: Crack a few jokes...
Mark: I don't know any good ones...
Cristina: Yeah...and mine are all dirty...
Mark: Well maybe you could tell me them later...
Cristina: In your dreams manwhore...can someone please find the happy couple...just follow the sounds of the moans...
Mark: And the screams...
Cristina: And the...never mind...I keep forgetting we have children here...
Mark: Oh just the Shepherd kids...they're used to it by now...aren't you kids?
Kids: Yes!

As Meredith and Derek finally entered the banquet room they were completely blown away by the even bigger crowd ...all familiar faces from the reception plus the entire adult Shepherd clan was there...as well as Thatcher and Ellis...

Meredith and Derek were speechless...words couldn't describe the pure joy they both felt in their hearts...it was overwhelming...all these people had actually come out to celebrate this special day with them...it was an amazing feeling...

Mark: Finally...they're here...glad you two could join us... Ladies and Gentlemen...will you please stand for the guests of honor...
Cristina: Our good friends and extraordinary humanitarians...Derek and Meredith Shepherd...

Everyone stood to their feet and applauded as Meredith and Derek followed the hostess inside...

Derek: Wow!
Meredith: Yeah...wow!

Sadie: Why is dad's hand on mom's ass?
Shane: Do really have to ask?
Savannah: (giggles)...I think it's so cute...you go daddy!
Shane: (stands up to leave)...I'll see you guys...
Savannah: Break a leg!
Sadie: Yeah...go kick some butt!
Shane: (smiles)...Thanks

Meredith and Derek made their way to their seats at a special table in front just below the center of the stage...stopping to give a few quick hugs and flashing grateful smiles across the room to those they couldn't get to...as they sat down at the table with their children and parents around them...they couldn't help feeling grateful for being able to share this special day with all of them...

Derek: (looks at Meredith and smiles)...Do you remember this place?
Meredith: (smiles)...Yes...very well...
Derek: I can still picture you walking into the concert and sitting in this very spot...
Meredith: Mhmmm...At this very table...
Derek: Yep...you were wearing an emerald green dress that matched your eyes perfectly...my heart still skips a beat just thinking about it...
Meredith: (smiles and kisses him softly on the lips)....Awww...but I don't remember what you were wearing...
Derek: No?
Meredith: (strokes his cheek)...No...I just remember how sad your eyes were...and your hair...I just wanted to run my fingers through it...I still do...(runs her hands through his dark curls)...
Derek: (closes his eyes)...Mmmm...hold that thought...
Meredith: (giggles)...Ok...

Cristina: Welcome everyone...we are so glad you were all able to join us this evening...
Mark: We know how you all like to drink and get wild so we're going to get things started so that you can enjoy yourselves at the celebration following the presentation...

Derek: Where's Shane?
Meredith: I don't know?
Sadie: What happened to your hair mom?
Meredith: Oh...um...I...we...
Sadie: Forget about it...I don't even want to know...
Derek: (smirks)...No...you don't...
Sadie: Oh God...you see...that is why we didn't ride in the limo with you guys...
Savannah: (laughs)...You guys are so busted...

Derek pulled Meredith's chair closer to his and kissed her neck...

Derek: I like getting busted with you Mrs. Shepherd...
Meredith: (grins)...Same here Mr. Shepherd...
