Chapter 214 🔞

Derek sat at the computer in his office checking his email...still excited about the Grammy news as the media continued to hype it up more and more each day. The Derek Shepherd Band had made history. No other band to date had been nominated for all of the primary categories in one year...let alone actually winning them all. He knew the album was good...it had remained #1 on the charts for three months...but never in his imagination did he foresee all of this.

But along with the good publicity came the bad. The media drudged up Carmen's car accident after the Grammy's the last time the band attended and the controversy surrounding it regarding Derek being the driver who was also under the influence. The good thing was that there were no more secrets or hidden agendas surrounding it anymore...everything was made public due to Derek's confession and fans were able to decide for themselves what they thought about the entire ordeal. And based on the record breaking sales from this last album...it was pretty clear that the past was now in the past...for good.

Derek took the good and the bad in stride...success came with a price. He tried his best to shield Meredith and the twins from any negativity. He knew that it had to be hard on Meredith to have to deal with the questions once again but she handled it well...with so much grace and class. She was amazing. Of course whenever reporters got too aggressive she didn't think twice about giving them the finger. The woman had balls.

He thought about how his life was such a mess before he met her...so empty...she had changed everything for him. They had come a very long way in such a short time. So much had happened in just a year and their love was stronger than ever. She was truly an angel sent especially for him....blessing him in every area of his life. Life was good. But life with Meredith and his two babies was the best.

The twins were in the nursery asleep. Meredith had finally gotten Sadie to rest after tending to a bad cough all week. She went downstairs in the kitchen to load the dishwasher before she went to get Derek for bed.

He smiled as he felt her warm arms wrap around his neck.

Meredith: Hey you.
Derek: (smiles)...Hey...I was just thinking about you.
Meredith: (smiles)...You were?

He spun his chair around and pulled her into his lap...wrapping his arms around her while she played with the soft dark curls on the back of his neck.

Derek: Uhuh...
Meredith: What about me?
Derek: (sighs and looks into her eyes)...Just how much I love you and every day I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you.
Meredith: (smiles)...Awww...I love you too baby...(kisses him softly on the lips)...
Derek: How's Sadie doing?
Meredith: The same...very congested and still coughing a lot...
Derek: Poor thing...she sounds so uncomfortable...
Meredith: Well...she's finally asleep...(sighs)...for how long...I don't know...
Derek: (grins as he attacks her neck with his lips)...Then I better get my kisses in now...
Meredith: (giggles)...Yeah...you better...

His lips traveled up to her mouth...giving her a sweet kiss that quickly heated up...Meredith reluctantly pulled back...not wanted to leave the taste of his lips...

Meredith: Ohhhhhh...we...we can't...
Derek: (chuckles)...And why not?
Meredith: Because the chief is here...
Derek: He is?
Meredith: (grins)...Yes...that kiss made me forget why I came in here...
Derek: (grins)...Sorry....
Meredith: (giggles)...No you're not...anyway he wants to talk to you....
Derek: (looks at his watch)...It's kind of late isn't it? Must be important...
Meredith: He's in the kitchen finishing up a call...
Derek: Ok...did he say what it was about?
Meredith: A little...but I'll let him tell you...

She tried to get up and leave but Derek pulled her back down to his lap...

Derek: No...stay here...
Meredith: Are you sure?
Derek: (grins)...Yes...(wraps his arms around her waist)...this is a really good spot...
Meredith: It is...(kisses him softly on the lips)...Ok...I'll stay...
