Chapter 226

As the music began to pick up...Shane recognized the beat and almost jumped out of Mae's hands to get to the stage...she held him tight as he danced around in her arms..

Mae: (laughs)...Calm down Shane...you like that song don't you..
Meredith: (laughs)...Yeah...he really does...look at those moves...

Derek: I wrote this song with my twin babies...they were up early one morning and I took them down to the studio...I watched them make a huge mess on the floor...tossing all my song sheets all over the place...they were having a good time...I thought about how grateful I was to have them in my life...when my wife and I first met we were both broken...wounded souls...scared to death to let anyone in...but we couldn't deny the love that we felt for each other... and now we have a wonderful marriage and two beautiful babies...I never imagined this day would come...being a husband and a daddy rocks big time...I am in love with my life right now and I am so thankful that my babies will only know the me that they see right now...I'm sure my wife is happy about that too...she would certainly agree that we've come a long way...especially me...(winks at Meredith)

As Derek began to sing...Shane got even more excited and tried his best to get out of Mae's arms...she finally put him down on the floor...he held on to her pants leg attempting to hold himself up for a minute and then let go...before she could reach down to pick him back up...he had taken his first steps...out on to the stage...

Mae: Oh my God...Shane! Meredith look!
Meredith: He's walking...Oh my goodness...look at him go!

Just as he got halfway across the stage...Derek noticed him and smiled with pride as his son walked towards him...he sat on his knees and continued to play his guitar when Shane finally stumbled into his arms...

Derek: (smiles)...Hey little man! You're walking!

Sadie watched Shane walk over to their dad and decided that she wanted to do the same...she began to squirm and wiggle until Meredith finally put her down as well...she took a few steps and then took off running across the stage and into Derek's arms with her brother...

Derek: Oh my goodness! Where'd you come from princess? Daddy is so proud of both of you!

Derek kissed them both and continued to sing as the twins sat on his knees and danced around...enjoying the sound of the familiar tune and being on stage with their daddy for the first time...

Mae: (laughs)...It figures Sadie would skip the walking part and go right into running...
Meredith: (smiles)...Yeah...she's such a pistol...
Steven: (smiles)...She's always trying to keep up with Shane...he keeps her on her toes...
Meredith: (smiles)..Well she may be smaller but she's not going to get left behind...she a tough cookie...

Once the song was over and the music stopped...the twins climbed off of Derek's knees and ran back to the side of the stage into Meredith and Mae's arms...

Derek: (smiles wide)...Well that was a treat...looks like they just had their first stage debut...and they are both walking now...how cool is that?

The crowd suddenly began to roar as Bono appeared on stage...he had finally arrived after being tied up at the airport...Derek was so relieved...he walked over to Derek and gave him a hug....Derek was the last act for the night and he was afaid Bono was not going to make it...he stood there a little star struck as he watched his idol standing on stage next to him...it was like a dream come true...

Bono: Derek...I just want to thank you for doing this...the world is definitely a better place because you're in it...you and your wife have done a fantastic job and I am here to announce that you have already raised 15 million dollars tonight...

The crowd when crazy...Derek couldn't believe his ears...that was more than enough money to finish both projects and then some...his eyes began to fill with tears as he thought about how many children like Steven they would be able to help...he looked over at Meredith and saw the tears flowing from her eyes...she blew him a kiss and smiled...touching his heart even more...

Bono: So this last song is dedicated to you...it started with one man...and a vision...you have a huge heart for the world's children...your vision is now becoming a reality...here's to you Derek Shepherd...will you please join me in singing this special song...(smiles)...I think you already know the words..

Derek smiled wide in the midst of his tears and nodded yes as the music began to play...

The crowd sang along...soon all the various artists made their way back to the stage to join in...Derek signaled for Meredith and Mae to come to the stage with the twins while the chief lifted Steven up on his neck and brought him along as well...it was an incredible night.....

Derek pulled Meredith close while she held Sadie in her arms and Mae handed Shane over to him...he looked into her eyes and smiled...

Meredith: (smiles)...You look so happy...
Derek: (smiles)...That's because I am...
Meredith: Me too...Life is good...
Derek: Damn good...
Meredith: I agree...
Derek: You have made me a better man Mrs. Shepherd...
Meredith: (grins)...You bet your perfect ass I did Mr. Shepherd...
Derek: (chuckles)...Thank you...
Meredith: (gently strokes his cheek)...You sir...are the only man for me...broken or not...

He covered her lips with his for a deep kiss that seemed to go on forever...leaving them both breathless and desperately wanting more...before they knew it...the concert was now over and people were starting to leave the stage...they held hands as they walked off the stage with the twins still bouncing around in their arms...

Meredith: (raises her eyebrow)...So...Mr. Shepherd...What do you say we head over to the tour bus and make some more babies...
Derek: (eyes wide)...Yeah?
Meredith: (smiles)...Yeah...
Derek: (kisses her softly on the lips)...Mmmm...Sounds like a great idea...only its way on the other side of the stadium...I don't think I can wait that long...how about a quickie behind the bleachers...
Meredith: (giggles)...What about the twins?
Derek: (sighs)...Ahhh...yes...the twins...I doubt if they'll sit and wait until we're done...
Meredith: (laughs)...I doubt it...
Derek: (kisses her neck)...I could be quick...really quick...
Meredith: (giggles)...Derek!
Derek: (grins)...Just kidding...(whispers in her ear)...we'll wait until they fall asleep and come back...
Meredith: (smiles)...God I love my horny rock star...
Derek: (smiles as he looks into her eyes)...And I love my porny wife...
Meredith: Forever?
Derek: Forever is a long time...
Meredith: (smiles)...Wouldn't have it any other way...
Derek: (smiles)...Me neither...
