Chapter 212 🔞

The Nigeria trip was going well despite its dramatic beginning...Meredith was right...they were both so busy that they would have had very little time to spend with the twins...And in the chief's absence, Derek had to take on a lot more responsibility than usual...In addition to performing and attending various publicity events, he also had to manage all the extra details that were involved in carrying out a successful concert...Still...he took some time away from things to meet Meredith at the hospital as she prepared for the grand opening later that same day...

Meredith: (smiles and takes his hand)...And now for a special private tour...
Derek: (smiles)...Hmmm...I like the sound of that...

She took Derek around the hospital showing him everything and introducing him to everyone...the more he saw of the beautiful facility...the more impressed he became...Meredith was extremely talented and he could tell she really put her heart in to the project...from the wonderful playrooms to the family suites used to house family members that wanted to remain close to their sick children...she made sure that they had the very best there was and then some by calling in favors from her extensive network of resources and former clients

Meredith: So...there you have it...what do you think?
Derek: It is amazing! You're amazing!
Meredith: I can't believe it's actually finished...It feels so good to know that these children will be giving a chance to live their lives with the best medical care there is...
Derek: And in comfort and style...
Meredith: (smiles)...That too...they deserve the best...
Derek: I know...it makes me realize how blessed we are to have two healthy children...Sadie's little colds and sniffles are nothing compared to what these kids have to deal with...
Meredith: Yeah...it really puts things in proper prospective...
Derek: I agree...

They walked back to the elevator holding hands and stepped inside...

Derek: Wait...we didn't see the top floor...
Meredith: Well that's because the top floor isn't finished...we sort of ran out of money...so it's just a storage area for now...
Derek: Oh yeah?...Well...I hear there's a great view of the mountains from up there...
Meredith: Oh there is...but where did you hear that from?
Derek: People talk...lets go up and see...Nigeria is such a beautiful country...
Meredith: Ok...

Meredith pressed the button for the top floor and when the doors opened she stood there wide eyed...in shock...

Meredith: What is all this?
Derek: (takes her hand and smiles)...Come on...let me show you...

He led her off the elevator and stepped on to the top floor...the entire floor had been completed...just outside the elevator was a set of huge double doors...she looked up at the bronze sign above them and gasped...

"The Meredith Shepherd Art Studio: Dedicated to healing the lives of children through art and creativity."

Meredith: Derek! What did you do?
Derek: (smiles)...Surprise!
Meredith: Oh my God!
Derek: (chuckles)...Hey...you haven't even seen it yet...close your eyes...
Meredith: (smiles)...Ok...

He opened the double doors and led her inside...

Derek: Ok...now open...

She opened her eyes and was completely amazed at what she saw...it was a huge room surrounded by tall glass windows....it contained several areas where children could explore different forms of art...drawing...painting...pottery...sculpting...graphic design...architecture...to name a few...it was incredible... She stood there frozen...her mind...body and soul couldn't take it all in...

Derek: (smiles)...Well...what do you think?
Meredith: I...I...
Derek: Ahhhh...you're speechless...that's a good thing...right?

She suddenly turned to him and jumped into his arms...crashing her lips into his for a passionate kiss that left him breathless...
