Parker's POV

"Come on, get in." I beckon as I wrap my arms around her waist, hoisting her into the shopping cart before she could rebut. However, much to my astonishment she obliged and placed her hands on the sides to brace herself, "where to first?!" She blurts out loudly as her hands jut out in front of her, pointing aimlessly down the aisle.

My fingers wrap around the handle of the trolly and I push it forward, chuckling deeply at the startled look that flickered across her face as she braced herself inside and tilted her head towards me, breaking out into a smile, "what are we getting first?" She asked. I turned the cart to the left, rolling it into the aisle that led to the sports section.

"Baseball bats."

"Wha–shouldn't we go in the toy section? That's like all the way on the other end of the store." I shook my head vigorously and took a sharp right, ignoring the incredulous and disapproving looks that were flung our way. It's not like this is the first time anyone has ever hopped into a cart.

Many unexplainable things have happened in Walmart, this is nothing compared to that. "We need to get real baseball bats not those toy things. They can't smash a watermelon as effectively, plus if we're lucky we might stumble on an abandoned car, I'm sure you're gonna wanna get a few blows in."

She clasped her enclosed fist into her palm and threw it over her shoulder, imitating clutching a baseball bat. Then she narrowed her eyes and smirked, "I definitely wanna get some blows in, I got a lot of pent-up anger I need to release." She exclaimed as she swung her hands to the left, "home runnnnn!" She whisper yelled as she threw her fist up in the air, cheering softly.

I couldn't help but laugh as I stared up at her. After seeing Hayley around the school all these years, I never once expected us to be dating. I should have spoken to her sooner  I've had countless opportunities but 1: I had a girlfriend in tenth grade and 2: I guess the thought of befriending her never crossed my mind until last month.

Now we're dating.

And honestly, it's been great.

I know people are whispering, pointing fingers, spreading rumours, and giving Hayley a hard time for being with me but I'm hoping that she doesn't let it get to her head. All that matters is how we feel about one another.

"Watermelons, eggs, goggles, baseball bats, and snacks, I'd say we're pretty much prepared," Hayley remarked as she slipped out of the car behind me. The rusted metal gates leading into the junkyard came into view as we fell in step beside one another, both clutching a baseball bat and watermelon in our hands.

The junkyard was barely supervised, especially at this time which allowed us to do practically whatever the hell we wanted. When we trekked up to the gate I pulled it open, ignoring Hayley's shouts of protest as the gate scraped against the concrete ground. "God, you don't know what's on that handle, you can get AIDS after this for all you knew."

"You're so dramatic," I chuckle as I slip through the open gate, motioning for her to follow me. Seeing as it was close to Winter, nightfall will start to creep in earlier than usual. It may only be 3 pm right now but by the time 5 pm hits, it'll start to get dark out.

"Come on, I wanna smash things already!" Hayley cried out as she rushed towards the junk dumped all around us. She pulled out what looked to be a school desk and set it down in the middle of the yard. Then she placed her watermelon down on the table and slid the goggles down over her eyes.
