To Anyone,

26. I wish you held my hand.

Hayley's POV

"Milton!"

"Hey, superwoman!" He smirked as I fell into step beside him. He flew his hands over my shoulders and tugged me into his arms, smiling down at me, "I'm kind of mad because we don't have any classes together. Can you switch to one of my classes pretty please?" He pouted.

"We're already a month into classes, I can't switch out now."

"Sure you can, there's about a month left!" He exclaimed to which I rolled my eyes in response, wondering why he couldn't be the one to switch classes. Even if I did consider it, Drayton would kill me because I'd be missing out on a month's worth of grades.

"Why don't you switch to Parker's and I's class? It's an art class, it's really fun. In fact, today Parker and I will be presenting our project. Maybe you should swing by our class now."

"Nah, arts isn't my thing. I guess we'll have to make up for lost time some other way. Speaking of which, my friends and I are going bowling this Friday night, you should come, invite some of your friends too if you'd like." He said, and before I could respond he ruffled my hair and began to trek away.

"Text me when you make up your mind!" He called out as he disappeared in the mass of students. I shook my head softly, chuckling under my breath as I made my way towards my locker. To my surprise, Landon was leaned against it munching on a nutrition bar, his gaze focused on the floor.

He didn't come over to drive me to school today which was totally fine. I suspected he did it because of Vanessa. But I didn't expect to find him here, risking his head being cut off by her, especially after what went down on Friday. "Morning Lan," I greeted as I reached my lockers.

He pushed himself off of it and flashed me a charming smile, "good morning, Lee. I'm sorry I didn't come by this morning. Vanessa wanted me to pick her up."

"You don't sound too thrilled by the idea of picking your own girlfriend up, or am I looking too deep into things?" I chuckled rhetorically as I shoved my bag into my locker and retrieved my binder. He parted his lips slightly and shook his head as his eyes assessed me with that same look he's been sporting for the past few days.

He still isn't ready to talk to me about what's been bothering him so much. "I-it's not that, it's just...I don't wanna neglect you, ya know? You don't drive and I hate that you have to ride to school on your skateboard most times."

Sometimes, Landon is too sweet for his own good. It was one of the reasons why I fell hard for him: why I loved him as if he were the only guy in the world for me. He's too good for Vanessa, he deserves better. "It's okay, Lan. I like riding to school on my skateboard, it gives me time to think. Just try patching things up with Vanessa."

Or not, at this point, I don't care about her. I only care how he feels.

"Thanks, Lee, you know I was thinking, maybe we could hang out on the we-"

"Hay bear!" I snapped my head away from Landon, not missing the look of annoyance that flashed across his face as Parker approached us, his lips tugged into a wide smile. I tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear, suddenly growing nervous as the memories of Saturday came rushing back into my mind.

It all felt like a dream. I had to keep pinching myself over the weekend to see if I was awake and if Parker and I really kissed twice in one day. I mean what are we now? Are we friends? Are we just two people who like one another or are we boyfriend and girlfriend?
