Keep That In Mind

Running was painful for Shinso. He kicked himself for not doing any type of conditioning until now. It would have made sense as he always knew he'd keep fighting to be let into the hero course. Why did he think that this wasn't important until now? Maybe because he thought his quirk would carry him farther than it did. He should have learned that wasn't true when he saw those robots that day. Aizawa had told him that his path is going to be harder because he can't depend on his quirk like others, and as always he was right. So, here he was trying to make up for lost time wheezing next to his friend who had yet to even break into a sweat.

"Toshi! We're almost done! Look there's the gym. You've got this!"

The purple-haired teen was thankful for his friend for helping him, but at the moment her enthusiasm made her seem like a sadist. She looked happy while she continued to torture him. Like she was amused by his suffering. He may be overreacting, but he couldn't think straight because of his exhaustion.

"We're done! Take 15 minutes to recoup then we'll go lift some weights!"

Shinso collapsed to the ground and grabbed a water bottle. He took a drink and raised a brow at his friend.

"I don't think I'm going to be able to move. Can we just do weights tomorrow?" he pleaded.

Y/N laughed and he felt his heart sink.

"That's not what we agreed on. We made a plan remember? You have to do both or this won't work. I guess you could run in the morning and then weights in the evening or vice versa, but with Aizawa's training on top of that it would be difficult."

He knew she was right, but good lord he felt like he was going to die.

Y/N sat down beside him and crossed her legs.

"I promise this will be easier the more you do it."

He looked up at his friend and knew she was right.

"All this pain and exhaustion will also be worth it in the end. If it's not then why are we even here?"

She was his biggest motivator, and when she said things like that he believed he could do anything. Shinso sat up and ruffled her hair with his hand.

"You're right. Annoying and peppy, but right."

She stood up and offered him a hand.

"I have to leave for training camp in a couple of days. You have to stick to the schedule while I'm gone. I'll know if you've been slacking."

Shinso rolled his eyes.

"I'm aware, mother. I'm not a child."

Y/n puffed out her cheeks in irritation.

"I could stop helping you and then you'd have to do this all by yourself."

Shinso frowned at the statement.

"Please don't joke about that."

Y/N was slightly taken aback by his comment. His expression had turned sad, and then she thought more about his past. People who used him to get what they wanted and then figured out that he wouldn't help them so they abandoned him. She would never abandon him, but he still harbored that insecurity.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that."

He looked over at her and can see that she immediately knew why he was bothered by the comment. A soft smile graced his features as he thought about the overly considerate girl in front of him.

"Don't worry about it. I know that you're different."

The pair started to walk inside the gym to the weights.
