Y/N was proud of her team. Granted, the only two that remember anything were her and Shinso, but none the less she was happy they took third place. With only four teams advancing she felt they did rather well.
"WE MADE IT!"
Y/N excitedly jumped into Shinso's arms hugging his neck and wrapping her legs around his waist.
"Yeah, we did. You were amazing, Cat."
Shinso chuckled and pulled away to look at the e/c eyes in front of him. Y/N was smiling brighter than the sun.
"I wouldn't have gotten here without you. Thanks for staying with me." Shinso stated this with the utmost sincerity.
He had always felt that there were people in the hero course who didn't belong. That other people were more deserving, but he has never doubted that she belonged there. Her abilities and personality were everything a hero should be.
"It wasn't a hard choice, Shinso. I knew we'd be fine. I just hope that Aoyama and Ojiro will be okay."
She felt bad for Ojiro in particular. He seemed to be taking the win hard. He was on their team and he felt that he didn't deserve to move on because he wasn't in control of his actions. Y/N understood his feelings, but she felt he could have proved he belonged by participating in the last event and going as far as possible in the one-on-one battles. Hell, Aoyama wasn't going to waste the chance and he was in the same boat. In the end, she understood it was his choice and she respected it. She just wishes Ojiro wasn't so angry with Shinso.
As they are were about to head to break the bracket was announced for the one-on-one matches. Y/N looks up to the screen and looks at first-round groupings.
"Well, shit."
There it is clear as day. Her first match will be against none other than Kaminari Denki.
'This must be karma for avoiding his ass all day,' she thinks to herself.
Shinso looks at the screen and sees his name matched next to Midoryia Izuku. The only thing he knew about his opponent was that he was plain-looking and had gotten first in the obstacle course. He felt confident as long as he could get him to talk to him.
He looked over to his friend and noticed her frown. He looked at the board for her first opponent and realized why she looked like someone had punched her in the gut.
"You know it's going to be okay, right? You were going to have to talk to him at some point anyway."
Y/N sighed. Shinso was right. She couldn't keep avoiding him forever.
"Maybe, I should talk to him before the match. I don't want him to think that I'm mad at him. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't already mad at me."
Shinso ruffled her h/c hair and headed off towards the cafeteria.
"Yeah, I'd go find him. Remember, if anything bad happens, find me. I'll kick his discount Pikachu ass."
Y/N laughed and started to search the room for the electric blonde. Looking around she doesn't find Denki, but she does spot Kirishima's fiery red hair.
"Hey, Kiri! Have you seen Denki?"
Kirishima looks towards Y/N and gives her a wide toothy grin.
"Hey, Y/N! Congrats on making it to the one-on-one fights. You're going to be so manly. As for Kaminari, I haven't seen him. I think I saw him go towards the cafeteria for food. He's probably trying to recharge before your fight."
The h/c haired girl thanked Kirishima and started making her way to the cafeteria.
Once she was there, she still couldn't find him, but she knew that she needed to eat. Y/N went ahead and filed into line with everyone else. While waiting she hears a familiar voice.
"Y/N!"
She turns around and sees Tsu behind her. Y/N was thankful to see her best friend. They hadn't spent a lot of time together recently and she missed the green-haired girl.
"Tsu! Do you want to each lunch together?"
Tsu smiled at her friend and agreed to eat with her. They caught up on the events of each other's lives and it was nice for Y/N to be able to connect with her friend. It made her feel more comfortable and relaxed. It was welcomed considering they were getting closer to the start time of the matches. Y/N didn't tell Tsu everything that had been happening with Denki. She as always didn't want her friend to worry. She had already been a burden to Shinso, and she wasn't going to ruin Tsu's day.
After lunch, Y/N began her attempt to find Denki once again. He wasn't in the prep rooms which would make sense because it wasn't time for their fight. She did another check of the cafeteria, and still no sign of him.
Present Mic announced that the matches were about to begin, and she knew Shinso would be up first. She didn't want to miss his fight and made her way towards the stands. Y/N looks at the bleachers and sees Denki sitting next to Bakugo. Lida is sitting in the row below them with Uraraka and Tokoyami. She feels nervous as she makes her way up the stands. Briefly, she makes eye contact with Denki who frowns and looks away. He seems to have decided to channel the personality of the hedgehog beside him. Y/N isn't completely surprised by this. She had unfairly been ignoring him all day. Why wouldn't he be upset?
"Y/N are you enjoying the festival?" Lida asks.
Taking a seat nervously beside Lida she responds.
"Yeah, it's been a crazy day. I haven't been able to talk to everyone like I normally would."
She hopes Denki hears the conversation and plays into the idea that maybe the events of the day have just been overwhelming. Looking towards the electric blonde she sees him staring straight ahead ignoring the conversation, but she notices his jaw had clenched at her comment.
Y/N looks down at the stadium and sees the match between Shinso and Midoryia. It seems to be going well for her friend. She really hopes he advances to the next round. Suddenly she hears a familiar voice start talking.
"I saw Midoryia talking to Ojiro before this. That Shinso kid doesn't seem very heroic to me. That quirk of his doesn't give his opponent a fair chance at a fight. Seems kind of dangerous. I wonder who else he's brainwashed today."
Denki looked right at Y/N when he finished his statement. Bakugo stayed silent staring at the arena, but glances over to his friend. It was an odd comment for Dunce Face to make about someone. He was normally a more positive person. Lida is about to voice his opinion when an angry h/c haired starts to speak.
"Sounds like someone is jealous that they have better control of their quirk. It's okay, one day you'll get to evolve Pikabitch."
Bakugo snorts at the comment and Lida looks at Y/N in horror. It's obvious the two are fighting and the boys feel stuck in the middle. Although Bakugo is enjoying the show. He's not used to seeing this side of classmates. Y/N's cheeky reply even came off as attractive to him.
Earlier, Y/N had felt guilty and sad about the way she had been treating Denki, but it was no excuse to make accusations towards her friend. She wasn't going to sit and listen to him make false statements.
"Nah, Babe. I have complete control. You'll get to see that perfectly in our match. It'll be a lot more fun than this one. Look, Midoryia just handed the purple hair freak's ass to him. Too bad. All that talk about taking my spot in our class. Guess that won't be happening now."
Y/N doesn't respond at first. She'll take care of his ass in their match. She needed to go check on Shinso. As she heads off, she says one last thing to the electric blonde.
"You said he wasn't heroic, but from what I just heard you're the only one not acting like a hero right now."
As she walks away Denki thinks to himself.
'I stopped being heroic a long time ago, Beautiful.'
