Morgan's POV
"I think that's all." Derrick said as he loaded Kaden's last bag in the trunk of his car.
"Yeah I think so." Kaden responded.
With a heavy heart I saw as Kaden packed her stuff as today was the day she finally was moving out for college... in a whole other country to be precise. The summer had gone by quick— too quick if I'm being honest and now time was up for us here. Jason had left two days ago and that wasn't any easier than saying goodbye to Kaden, even if we still would text, call and facetime every often... I felt like my heart was splitting in two and my best friends were taking those parts with them.
"Can't believe this is it." I kicked a rock out of the sidewalk.
"Me neither I'm going to miss this place," Kaden looked at her house. "I'm going to miss you," she said now looking at me.
"Me too Kade, so much."
She gave me a small smile and I returned it. "Come, I need to go get my hand bag that's in the house still."
I mumbled a 'sure' and followed her into the house after she locked the car. When we got inside I was not looking where I walked so I bumped into Kaden's back and she proceeded to shush me as she peaked to the livingroom secretly.
I frowned confused and quietly took a peak at what she was looking and it was then that I heard her parents talking.
"Kaden is going to be fine, she's a big girl and I will take care of her too, Derrick." Candace put a reassuring hand over his arm.
"What will you do in the meantime back there?" Derrick questioned her.
"I have taken a lot more time off work than I originally planned to so that will be a handful."
"Oh, yes... I forgot that's your home." He scratched his neck.
Candace took a step forward and grabbed Derrick's hand."I live there, yes, but that's not my home. My home it's where Kaden and you are," she paused and put her other hand over his jaw. "I know I hurt you so badly and that I was terrible and selfish in the past... so I swear that I will do everything that I can so I earn your forgiveness one day. I love you so much Derrick and I am so sorry."
You could see Derrick eyes glistened even from where we were as he took Candace's hand from his jaw and just tenderly kissed it before giving her a simple nod and a tight smile.
I was then grabbed by the back of my shirt and dragged up the stairs by Kaden — I think she heard everything she needed to. She was careful enough to discretely walk us without her parents hearing us.
"So is your bag all you need? You sure you already got everything?" I decided not to comment on anything we heard downstairs — that was relationship stuff between her parents we shouldn't have even eavesdropped in the first place.
"Yeah, I checked twice everything I need it's in the car already." I think Kaden thought the same I did.
Once she got it we went back downstairs but not before Kaden silently bid goodbye to her room breafly one last time. Outside in the porch stood Candace, while Derrick was standing against the car on his phone.
"Are you ready?" Candace asked her daughter.
"Yes, I'm ready to go." Kaden handed her the car keys and we headed to the car. "When are you supposed to leave for Chicago?" She asked me as we walked.
"Four days."
Kaden nodded — she was now besides the backseats door of the car. "Morgan promise me that we'll talk everyday... that we won't forget about each other."
