I'm sitting on the couch at Luke's. Still waiting for his sister to come. He's in his room doing God knows what.
I feel my phone buzz in my pocket. I take it out and my mom's name flashes on the screen. "Hi, mom."
"Hey, sweetheart. Where are you now?" She never really asks this kind of question. Why now?
"I'm in a friend's apartment. Today's his sister's birthday. I just want to see her."
"Oh. Which friend now?"
Should I tell her?
"Um.. Luke."
"Luke? Haven't heard of him before. But alright, honey. Take care."
She hangs up.
"Lukey, Lukey I'm home!" I heard a girl's voice coming through the door.
The door opens and she seems surprised to see me in her place. She looks scared, "L-Luke?" I smile at her innocence. "Hey, beautiful girl. You're Luke's sister, right?" She nods. I walk towards her and stop right in front her. I kneel down, "I'm Lily. Luke's friend. I heard today's your birthday so I came to see you and wish you a wonderful one."
"Um.. thank you." Her head is low but I can see she's trying to steal a glance up on me.
Soo adorable!
"Luke's in his room now. I'll stay here for a while if you let me?"
"Okay, I'll call Luke." She left me to Luke's room. I sat back on the couch, opening my Wattpad account on my phone.
I was too busy reading that I didn't notice Luke and his sister were already standing in front of me. "I'll play the song."
He sat on a chair a few feet away from me. He started playing his guitar.
There goes my heart beating
'Cause you are the reason
I'm losing my sleep
Please come back nowHe was singing Calum Scott's You Are The Reason. One beautiful song that I really loved.
There goes my mind racing
And you are the reason
That I'm still breathing
I'm hopeless nowI took a glance at Luke's sister. She was looking at him with sparks in her eyes. She looked very excited. She was adorable.
I'd climb every mountain
And swim every ocean
Just to be with you
And fix what I've broken
Oh, 'cause I need you to see
That you are the reasonI smiled as he went on with song. He was so good at playing guitar. Picking the strings, making beautiful melodies out of that thing. And his voice was beautiful as well.
Am I impressed now?
"..That you are the reason." I saw Luke's sister smile at him. She ran towards him and put her arms around his neck. Now that I thought I didn't know her name yet, I decided to ask, "um.. what's your name again, little angel?"
"H-Helen.."
"What a cute name. It suits you." Then she smiled at me. Progress.
I stared at her, then to Luke. I repeated that couple of times, they didn't look alike. Was she somehow..?
Oh, Lily! Stop being a nosy bitch."Thanks for having me, Luke. That was so good." I said to Luke when I finally decided to go home. He nodded, "and Helen. I hope you're always happy, sweetheart."
"Thank you Lily."
I waved goodbye to them then started to walk home. I didn't bring my car since I was too lazy today.
"Lil!" Someone called my name as I walking in the lobby. Luke was standing few feet away from me, "you.. you know.. I can drive you home. Come on." Weird. Odd. Strange. Why? Why did I have so many "why" questions when it came to him? We just met yesterday and I already lost count.
I felt the urge to ask on why Luke's and Helen's faces didn't look alike. I cleared my throat and asked, "Luke.. this may sound rude.. but I saw your-Helen's and your faces don't look alike. Is she.. is she.. um.. ? Ah.. forget it! I'm being so random right now. I'm sorry."
Luke's POV
I was surprised. Was she thinking what I was thinking she was thinking?
It was silent and maybe she felt bad for asking me that because she apologised, "I'm really sorry I didn't mean to-"
"You're so fussy, you know? Don't act like you know me for your whole life." I rolled my eyes. "I didn't mean to ask you that, it just came to my mind. It's okay if you don't wanna tell me. I don't have the right to know I'm really sorry if it made you feel offended." She lowered her voice. She looked scared now. I didn't intend to make her scared. I just didn't think I should talk to her about this because who was she even?
But a part of me said that it as okay to tell her about that. Why? I had no idea."She's adopted." I finally let it out.
The worst part of this was, I told her everything. "My parents wanted a daughter so badly. But they could never have one. Not just a daughter, but she just couldn't have any more child. So they decided to adopt a kid. Helen is an amazing girl. At first, I felt a little bit irritated by her presence. She took all my parents' attention and love but maybe it was just because she was too little and didn't have parents. As I grew up I could understand that. I even felt stupid for ever feeling irritated. She is so innocent and cute. And I loved-love her. She's beautiful also."
She nodded in agreement, "She really is."
Lily's POV
He told me everything about her.
It was hard to believe since he acted like he hated me and all. But, once again, he told me. I thought he would never open up to me. But apparently he did. Here goes another progress.
