Chapter 50, "Flashback"

Flashback...

one day later...

"Jayda we need you to eat." I begged.

"I...I do-d-don't wa-n-t it." she stammered.

"Just one bite please?"

I raised the burger to her mouth and watched as she took a bite out of it. Her bandages aren't able to come off yet, so her face was still fully wrapped. She pushed the burger away once she was done and slowly chewed.

"See? That wasn't so bad was it?"

"S-s-sl-sleep?" she asked.

"You want to go to sleep?"

She shook her head yes and I positioned her so that she was more comfortable. Everyone else except for Jayda's mom went home knowing she was okay. She has yet to see them; they don't want to freak her out. Jayda's mom was sleep as I held Jayda's hand while she slowly fell asleep.

I was dozing off to sleep when Jayda started shaking and screaming in her sleep.

"Jayda...Jayda it's me. I'm right here okay? You're at the hospital. You're safe." I said, waking her up.

"S-s-safe?" she panted.

"Yes baby you're safe. I'm here with you."

"Harry?"

"Yes Jayda it's Harry. You see? It's me." I said, pulling her hand to my face.

"Y-you're here."

"I'm here." I assured.

2 days later...

"Okay. Are you ready to get these bandages off?" Dr. Amanda asked.

"Y-yes." Jayda replied, her eagerness making me smile.

Dr. Amanda cut the bandages off her face revealing a few cuts on Jayda's cheek. Other than her bruising, her face wasn't swollen anymore. She was slowly beginning to become better at her speech and eating a bit more everyday. She's still been having nightmares, but she's progressing.

Everyone was coming to see her today for the first time and I was a bit nervous. I had no clue of how she would react. She still jumps at my touch sometimes then relaxes when she notices it's just me.

Louis texted me to let me know he's here and I went out to greet them. Mrs. Matthews went 2 days ago to get some actual quality sleep. She's leaving 3 days, so I assured her that it was okay to get some sleep. I met everyone in the lobby and just basically gave them an update.

"She just got her bandages taken off. She's not exactly back to where she was but she's getting there. Ummm...she's still very fragile so don't jump at her. She's still not even getting used to me." I explained, but I was really just rambling.

"We know Harry. Calm down and just let us see her now please." Kara sighed.

"Right. Okay...."

Every step we took felt like it was in slow motion. I had no way of knowing Jayda's reaction and I just hope it's a good one.

"Darling, you have visitors." I said, walking to her side.

"V-vi-visitors?"

"Yes. The rest of the family is here. See?"

She looked up as everyone walked in and came to her side. She squeezed my hand tightly as if not knowing what to do.
