Chapter Eight: Aurora Caine

We walked into the S.H.I.E.L.D HQ's front doors. Well the Avengers marched in with confidence, I was being dragged in by Tony. "We really don't have to do this." I tried reasoning.

"Don't you want to know?" Natasha asked.

That shut me up. I was on edge because Chaos hadn't talk to me since the trigger thing and that was unusual. She was usually mocking me or being a smartbutt. I also did not want to face Fury.

We entered Fury's office and he looked up at us, "Can I help you?"

"Isis wants to know about her past." Tony spoke up, pulling me to his side.

Fury's gaze shifted from Tony to me, "Is this true?"

I nodded weakly. Why was I so scared? I've never been scared of anyone before.

"Except for Anglos."

Chaos' voice reached my ears. So now she shows up?

"Okay then."

All of our jaws dropped, not really thinking Fury would give in so easily. He pulled out something from a locked desk drawer and slid it towards me. "That's all we have on you. You can go now."

I picked up the folder and walked out with my team. My heart was pounding in anticipation of learning who I was. Why I was triggered by fire.

I opened the folder the second we got back to the tower. I shifted through papers and found one that looked like a résumé.

Name: Aurora Caine.

Date of Birth: October 31, 1994.

Age: 6

Family: Deceased.

Place of Birth: Unknown.

Occupation: Acrobatics.

I put it back down, pain seeping it's way into my heart. I had no family. But why?

I shifted through a few more papers when a disk fell onto the floor. I picked up and realized it was a DVD. My eyes looked up to Tony and he led us to a home theater. I placed the DVD into the player and sat between Tony and Natasha.

"She's beautiful." A man's voice said. The camera was pointed down at a baby.

"And she's all ours." A woman's smiling face appeared on the screen. She was dressed in a sparkling leotard and small top hat. "Our beautiful baby Aurora."

The scene switched to a few years later, I had to be about four. Just as my mother was in the earlier footage, I was dressed in a sparkly leotard, except mine was blue and black. The sequins made small beams of light dance around the rather large tent with every movement. I stood on top of a tight rope, one foot suspended outward.

"You got this Rory!" My mother's voice filled the speakers.

I watched myself drop from the tight rope and grab onto a swinging bar with one hand. I then managed to flip onto another and catch myself with my ankle.

My mom and dad clapped loudly and pulled me in for a family hug when I came down off of the tight rope.

The scene switched again. This time it was during a live performance. The camera zoomed in on my smiling face and followed me as I did a routine. I had just did a hand stand on a unicycle on the tight rope when screams were heard.

Six year old me looked down at the ground in fright, the flickering of flames reflecting in her blue eyes. The camera swiveled from me to the rather large flames engulfing the circus tent.

People were screaming and running, trying to find a way out, but the fire had everyone trapped. I saw my mother running towards me, yelling my name in a panic.

When I got into her arms, she ushered me to a small area behind the stands where a small hole, only a tiny body could fit through, was visible. I looked back at her with tears brimming my wide, frightened eyes.

She kissed my forehead, told me she loved me and ushered me out of the hole, demanding I run as far as I could and to not look back.

The tape ended with frightful screams and screams of pain. I stared at the screen with wide eyes. My parents died in a fire. I was a circus acrobat.

"That fire, that's why I was triggered with his power. It was my last memory before the government found me."

"And after I came to live in your head." Chaos added.

"I'm Aurora Caine, circus acrobat with two loving parents who died protecting me. And I didn't remember any of it." Sadness over took my body, making me slump backwards.

Steve laid a hand on my knee, "It must've been a side affect of the serum. It's okay to want to cry Isis."

I wiped at the tears on my face, "My name's Aurora."

Steve nodded understandingly, "Okay, Aurora."

Above is a picture of Aurora's leotard.

So what do you think? Did you expect it?

I'll try to update as soon as I can, I'm going through something at the moment and it's hard for me. So my apologies if I don't update quickly.

Thanks!
