-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was exhausted from schoolwork, but I had to go to my job today.

It was almost winter, and Christmas was a few weeks away. I wanted to go home, but I did not know my university professors would dumb tons of assignments for next semester. Sometimes I wonder why I even chose this major, "nutrition". Ironically I work in the city's best bakery and street food cafe.

I entered the cafe and wore my apron quickly. Business hours were slow. Apparently, everyone is home. It was Thanksgiving a few days ago; shops were rarely opening. But Boss wanted to keep the cafe open, which I didn't mind, because I needed some extra income before the holidays.

It was 6 pm. It was dark already. The alleys looked empty, but the lights and decorations were still up from thanksgiving and Halloween.

I sat near the corner of the counter and scrolled through my phone.

News: "Under 25 Volleyball World Championship, Japan Qualified for Semi-Finals, Canada loses to Russia.."

I signed. I hoped Canada at least went to semi-finals. The stadium and hotels were a few blocks away from the cafe. During the match days, it was pretty crowded, and we wanted customers. Now Canada losing, I doubt people be around unless Canadians are a fan of other country's game.

I scrolled more, but nothing was interesting. So I decided to close the shop...until the door opened.

"Hello, Welcome to Glace" I get up and greet the customer. Holy shit, he was tall, almost like a giant. He wore a grey hoodie and looked somehow nervous, which made me nervous in return. Nonetheless, he kept a very straight and stoic face. He looked strict and mannered. His shoulders were broad, and his posture was straight.

I finally saw his face. He had amazing features and was indeed a handsome man. I smiled; however, he just nodded and almost bowed.

"What can I get you, sir?" I ask. He looked around the counter a bit and pointed at the glass.  "This?" I ask, holding the calorie blast large muffin. He nodded.

"Anything else?" I ask again smiling. Of course, he did not smile back. He shook his ahead.

He was lucky, and it was the only large muffin left. I was planning to take this one for myself until he came along. With a little frown, I packed his muffin and offered him.

"Thank you." He replied. The voice was super heavy. He was the definition of a "Man".  I whimper, and reply "En-Enjoy."

He gave a strict nod, with no smile and left towards the door.

But he stopped in midway. He came back, and my heart raced a bit. I look up, "Yes?" I ask, hoping he doesn't ask anything weird.

"What...name..of this?" He spoke with his heavy tone.  I realised English was not his first language. The accent sounded Japanese.
"You mean the muffin's name?" I ask softly. He nodded.
"Oh. Its Cafe's speciality. Its called Calorie Blast" I reply.
"How sweet?" His voice unwavering, strict as ever.
" Very sweet," I say. Although it was was not noticeable, I swear I saw his face getting little excited.

"Calorie? How much?" He asks. The questioned stunned me. I never had customers asking about our food's calories since all stuff here are just technically not "healthy". Most of it is comfort food.
"It's um...since you took a large one with heavy butter whipped cream...It would be 1200 to 1400" I say unsure.
"Um... Are you sure you want this because it's pretty fattening if you're concerned about the calories?" I enquire.

"Yes, I want it. It's Okay." He was a very straight word.
I whimper and softly say, "oh ok..", although I doubt he heard it.

He gives a simple nod, "Thank You Miss" and then finally turns and heads to the door.

Him calling me "Miss". It felt weird. He seemed super formal.

As he turned, he lifted his hood.  I saw the back of his hoodie.

It said, "Ushijima #1" with the Japan flag. As I did a little wave with a smile, my mind wandered a little as he crossed the glass window and later disappearing.

"Not everyone can smile, y/n," I told myself and yawned a little. I cleaned up the cafe after a few mins for the next day. I had evening shifts, did not want morning staff to complain. Nonetheless, Boss and co-workers were amazing.

I couldn't wait to tell Boss that someone from Japan came to the shop.

"Japan!" I tell myself with a little euphoric concern. I took out my phone and googled Japan National Team Volleyball.

On the suggestions of Wikipedia pages, I saw the name.

"Ushijima Wakatoshi", he had his own Wikipedia page.

"Huh".... I ask myself. But he just bought like high sugary dessert that is over 1000 calories

With a confused brain, I end up cleaning the counter again. As I cleaned the cashier counter, I realised he left me a "$60" tip for a 9 dollar muffin.

"Huh"...I ask myself again. I need to return it. He definitely made a mistake. But how?

 But how?
