The next morning I woke up; I did not see him beside me. It was a little awkward to go outside. I hoped nobody discovered our relationship.Regardless I was worried about where he was. I stayed in bed for an hour, hoping he would return, but he did not.
I finally went out. Surprisingly my dress was still on his chair. I wore that instead of the Yukata. A beautiful basket with all essentials for getting ready was presented in front of the door. I was impressed with the hospitality of the Ushijima's. I quickly got ready and did some make-up for the day.
I went out. The house servants greeted me.
I quickly noticed one of a kind lady that offered me the Yukata the other night.
"Hello, I was wondering where is Ms Rei and Wakatoshi...." I asked kindly.
She made an oh face.
"Ms Rei went to her office for some work, she has asked me to take you to brunch. I am not aware where Sir is but I am assuming he is at the family graveyard." She replied, immediately bowed at me.
I greeted her thank you.
She later insisted I have brunch. However, Ushijima being alone at the graveyard made me sad; I insisted she take me to the graveyard.
She was hesitant at first but agreed later.
I was taken to the graveyard.
"I am not allowed in to go further. It is for family members only. I suggest you wait for Sir to come back. I am told he is inside paying respects." She replies.
I smiled and agreed to wait outside.
I waited for another 30 minutes until I see him walking outside the gate. The graveyard looks beautiful and rarely looked like a graveyard itself.
He rarely noticed me and kept on walking. His eyes looked sad.
"Wakatoshi?" I softly call out.
He immediately turned back, and his eyes were weakened with little soft tears.
"Y/n...?" He was surprised but later relaxed his body. He came forward with a soft smile. I quickly went to him and put my palm on his face.
"You okay?" I asked.
He softly nodded, taking my hands onto his.
"I am here for you." I reply.
"I know..." he smiles back.
"Come with me...." He later replies. I was shocked.
I realised he was taking me inside the garden where I am not technically supposed to enter.
"Uhm...Toshi. I am not really supposed to enter." I say.
"You will have to pay respects to her soon anyway, why not now?" He replied. I was confused.
I hesitantly accepted. I was led inside.
The graveyard was beautiful and huge. It was decorated with flowers and trees. I saw few other family members paying respects to their other family members, but they were far away. I did realise some of them looking at me—a foreigner. But Ushijima did not care.
He finally stopped.
"Here she is..." he said. I wasn't sure whether he was referring to me or his....grandmother.
"I know you already noticed why I was hesitant to come back home." His eyes softened.
"You weren't sure how well your heart could take it...." I murmured. Ushijima softly nodded.
"I miss her, y/n...everyday." he replied.
I softly held his hand and squeezed it. I leaned on his shoulder and caressed it.
"She would be so proud of you right now...." I reply.
He kept silent.
"How can I know it? I feel like I disappointed her at the end. She wanted to see me but I was too busy...avoiding my mother. This house. She was lonely at the end after I moved out..." he explained.
"I feel guilty...." He continued.
"Shh...don't say that...." I replied.
"I focused too much on my bad memories to remember the good ones with her. I even forgot to get her flowers today." He looked down.
" I miss her so much. I miss her kindness, her warmth. " He explained.
"The good memories are still inside of you. You remember, you clearly now cherishing it. She is always with you Wakatoshi. Always..." I reply.
I softly leave his hand and move towards the tomb.
There were few naturally grown flowers around the tomb....I collected a few of them and then picked some flowers from the tree hovering around it. It was a collection of jasmine and some wildflowers.
Later, I softly walk towards Ushijima. I ask him to tie the flowers with a vine.
And he did. His eyes followed me with admiration.
"There you go...." I give the little flowers to him.
I offered him the flowers so he can place them near the tomb. His eyes smiled a little. But before he moved forward, he took my hand and neared it to the flowers he was supposed to hold. We were both holding it.
He softly knelt, and I followed him.
"Hello Gran, It is me...your Waki...I am playing for Olympics now. We reached semi-finals. Nobody makes fun of my left-handedness anymore. I even got a college degree outside volleyball...Can you believe it? You said I was smart, I guess I now know why...." Ushijima softly spoke to the tomb, little sparking tears as he wiped.
"I made friends, they all are nice. I take care of them just like you asked...also Satori..remember Satori? He got married and now will have 2 kids. Time flies! I even...um...made amends with Okasaan and I talk to Dad frequently now. Things are going back to normal just like you wished. I am trying to complete all your tiny wishes as you asked for. I am trying to be happy...like you asked for..." he continued.
" Also...I fell in love. I met this beautiful girl..." he continued.
My heart stopped. I quickly looked at him.
"She is here with me. Her name is y/n... she kept my little secret just like you did when I was little. She strangely acts like you sometimes. Always caring. Never showing her own pain. Always looking after me. She is little clumsy like you too. I see the same kindness in her eyes like yours. I cannot figure her out the way I never could figure you out. She even got you pretty flowers. See? Out of all flowers nearby, she chose the jasmine. Your favourite! Maybe its a sign, that you already like her. So, I hope, wherever you are...you help me keep this girl in my life. I know I already lost you but....I hope I never lose her."
I drew my lips in, and I was crying inside.
He softly adjusted the flowers.
I looked at him, and he looked at me.
Our heads leaned on each other.
He softly whispered.
"Thank you for coming into my life." He spoke.
"No, Thank YOU..." I emphasised softly, wiping his tears off his cheeks.
Later sharing a soft but passionate kiss.
