~Your POV~ 1 week later~
It was half an hour before school started. I was a mess, running through the halls, searching everywhere for my best friend. "Himari PLEASE tell me you've seen Kōshi," I said frantically as I stumbled upon her. She shook her head. I was on the verge of tears. Again. I already had mascara stains from earlier.
"Why-"
"Gotta go. Bye," I said as I continued to sprint down the hall.
'He HAS to be in the gym. That's the one place I haven't looked. Please be there.'
I busted into the gym, chaotically, might I add. I looked like a mad man, completely panicking. My eyes landed on my grey-haired best friend and I ran like my life depended on it, yelling in the process, catching everyone's attention.
"SUGAWARA KŌSHI!"
He turned around and looked at me concerned, knowing I never use his full name. I threw my bag across the gym and ran over to him, jumping into his arms, sniffling but trying not to let the tears fall. He caught me immediately and held me close.
"Y/N?" He whispered. "Please let me stay at your place, please please please Kōshi." I was now sobbing. He had one arm wrapped all the way around my back, his other hand was cradling the back of my head.
"What happened?" He asked, still whispering. He was petting the back of my head trying to calm me down. It only made me cry harder.
"She's back. Please don't make me stay there." I whimpered. "Hey, you're always welcome, you're family." He didn't bother pushing the fact that my mother was home. He knew better.
"Thank you..." I whispered. He set me down and his eyes widened when he saw the blood on my uniform. My arm was scratched up and bleeding but it wasn't bad...anymore.
"Y-" I ran out of the gym ashamed. No doubt everyone saw it. I ran and ran until I got to his house. I tried to open the door but it was locked.
'FUCK I LEFT MY BAG IN THE GYM!!!'
I knocked on the door rapidly, praying someone was home. The door opened revealing Mrs. Sugawara. "Oh my- Y/N, dear what happened?" I started to cry again. She pulled me inside and took notice of my arm.
"Is she back?" Mrs. Sugawara asked me. I nodded and she understood. Their whole family has looked after me for as long as I can remember. My mother was never designed to be a parent. There wasn't a single maternal bone in that woman's body. She knows nothing about love. Most of the time she's traveling for work so I never have to see her but she drops in every once in a while.
And every time she decides to "drop-in" something always goes wrong. Like today, I was making my lunch when I heard the front door open. I winced at the memory.
"Miyazaki F/N." My mother said harshly. "I-in the kitchen." She walked in and saw that I was making food. She pushed me out of the way and tried it, spitting it out in the sink immediately after. "Ugh, disgusting." She picked up the bowl and threw it on the floor. The glass shattering on impact.
She turned back to me and stepped close. "What did you do to your hair?" She asked as she grabbed a strand. "I-I got it c-cut" She grabbed my face with one of her hands. "Did you just stutter?" "N-no ma'am" "Yes. You did. Don't lie to me." She let go of my face and started to leave the kitchen. I bent down to clean up some of the shattered glass when something hit my arm, breaking against it.
I looked down to see the now broken picture frame that held a picture of Kōshi and me from one of my football games last year. Tears started to well in my eyes as I watched her pick it up and rip it in half.
"What did I tell you. You're to focus on your academics. Not friends, and definitely not football."
I nodded. "Yes ma'am." "Good, now clean up the mess you made." She said as she left. I picked up the glass and threw it away. I grabbed my school bag and shoved the ripped picture inside of it.
'I knew I shouldn't have left it out.'
I snapped my attention back to the sound of Mrs. Sugawara's voice.
"Y/N? Dear?" I hummed. "Go ahead and go take a bath. Leave your school clothes in the sink when you're done, I'll clean them for you." "Thank you" I whispered. She pulled me into a hug, I flinched at first but ended up accepting it. She was the kind of mother I wanted. After our hug, I went upstairs, into Kōshi's room, and went to his bathroom.
I started the water and stripped off my clothes, laying them in the sink just like Mrs. Sugawara told me. Once the water filled the tub I climbed in and submerged myself. I sat in the water until it was basically cold. I wrapped one of the guest towels around me and walked out.
I put on a pair of Kōshi's boxers and sweats. I searched his closet for a shirt to wear, ultimately deciding on one of his plain white tees. I heard a faint knock at the bedroom door a few moments later.
"Come in" It was Kōshi's little brother. "Mommy said you could use this." He said as he struggled to hold the tray. I grabbed it from him and kissed the top of his head. "Thank you bub" He smiled at me and left. I looked at the tray and saw there was freshly brewed tea along with a bowl of rice and some bandages.
I wrapped the bandage around my arm a few times and secured it. I sat down on Kōshi's bed and drank about half of the tea before exhaustion started to overtake me. I curled up under his covers and fell fast asleep.
