~Third Person POV~
"NOW WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT! IT SEEMS L/N F/N HAS TAKEN OVER AS WINGER WHILE #3, KEITARO KAGAMI IS DEFENDING. THAT'S SOMETHING YOU DON'T SEE EVERY DAY"
Everyone in the stands and the other players on the field remained confused. But the Karasuno team knew how to play like this. Not with 10 people, but Y/n would have people swap positions at practice just in case a situation as this arose.
Once the whistle blew Nori took off with the ball again. There seemed to be a bigger gap between her and her teammates, but they were down a player, meaning the girls had to work twice as hard.
Shiratorizawa managed to steal the ball and their player headed straight for Himari. Kagami knew this was her time to shine. She ran towards the other girl, keeping her eyes focused on the ball.
"I don't think so" She turned the ball over and passed it to Ayame. "ANOTHER GOAL FOR KARASUNO!"
---
There were a few minutes left on the clock. It was 4-1, and Kagami currently had the ball. She shot it to Hanako, who passed it to Y/n. Shiratorizawa's #9 tried to turn it over but failed miserably. Y/n was simply moving too fast.
If there was one thing she hated more than anything else, it was watching someone get hurt and knowing she couldn't do anything for them. But this time, this time was going to be different. She's not just playing to win. She's playing to win for her teammate. Nothing else mattered.
The crowd and everything else faded into background noise. All she could hear was the sound of her own heart beating. Her lungs pushing air out and sucking air in. Her eyes were trained on the field in front of her and the field alone.
She zipped past 2 of the Shiratorizawa defenders with ease. The ball never straying far. She was pushing herself. Pushing herself harder than before. Pushing herself to do this one task.
"Just score. That's all I need to do. Score." She mumbled to herself as she continued running. "I'm not letting anyone down today...not this time"
The closer she got to the goal, the slower time seemed to move. She scanned the goal, looking for any open points of entry. Her eyes flashed back and forth as she searched until they landed on one spot. The upper left corner.
It's an impossible shot from where she's standing. But Y/n wasn't about to give up. She looked back and saw the Shiratorizawa players trying to come to their goalie's defense.
"You've got this kid" Her dad's voice rang out in her head. Her leg crossed over her body as she took the shot, making her wince but it was the only way. The only way to win.
"INCREDIBLEEEEEE!!!" Everyone watched as the ball flew into the back of the net. "IT'S A GOAL!" Y/n dropped to her knees as the whistle blew. She looked up to the sky as the tears streamed down her face.
Her teammates ran towards her, dropping down to their knees, and enveloping her in a hug. Himari put her arms around her best friend and Y/n sobbed into the girl's chest.
Her tears weren't happy tears. She was in raw, emotional pain. Everything she had been working for, everything she had ever wanted, was now so close.
Her number one supporter wasn't there, but he was watching her from above. "He'd be proud of you Y/n" Himari whispered as she held her friend closer.
All the girls knew how much football meant to Y/n. She wanted to go to nationals for her team and for her dad. While the other girls wanted to go to nationals for Y/n. She had done so much for them. They wanted her to shine. Shine in the spotlight.
Once everyone's tears dried, they received their trophy and walked off the field, more proud than ever.
"Way to go captain" Y/n turned around and ran straight towards Daichi, jumping into his arms without warning. "I told you you wouldn't let them down" He kissed her forehead which was sweaty but he didn't care. He just wanted to be the support his girlfriend needed.
See, once Y/n had dropped to her knees on the ground and looked up at the sky, Suga's eyes started to brim with tears, which his entire team had noticed. Suga always came in second. On his team. In his home. Everywhere it felt. He never wanted anyone to ever feel like he did.
But years before Y/n's dad died, he became a role model to the young grey-haired boy. He loved Suga like his own. So he knew who Y/n had won the game for, and when his teammates asked him about it, he explained. Which leads us to where we are now.
"I got you these" He said as he handed her a bouquet of roses. "You didn't even know if we were gonna win..." "Yes I did" "I did it for him" "I know you did baby"
On the other side of Japan, Y/n's mother was in the middle of a business meeting. "I think we should partner with Japan News Network" Mrs. Miyazaki scoffed. "Why on earth would we ever do that?"
"Have you not seen their ratings? They've been going up ever since they focused on Japan's Player of the Year." The older woman rolled her eyes. One of the businessmen slid the magazine to her and searched for the recent video the news channel had put out.
As she flipped through the pages her interest grew less and less. Until she stopped on Y/n's picture. "Here she is" The woman looked up at the screen where her daughter's face was plastered, her team standing behind her.
"Does L/n serve as a good captain?" "Y/n is the best captain we could've ever asked for. Not only does she push us to our full potential but we always work together, as a team, she never puts herself above the rest of us."
The woman's face turned sour as she stared at the monitor. One of the men then played the video of her best moments and legendary saves. Just when we thought the woman couldn't be fueled by any more rage...she was.
