"I'll be out in the waiting room," Olivia said to Jesse. She then turned to me. "Bye Genji." She said with a smile and a small wave. I did the same and watched as she left my room. I then turned to Jesse. He moved his chair closer to my bed, sat down and leaned forward. "I want you to see something." He said. Jesse then reached into one of his front jean pockets and pulled out a crumpled up piece of paper. "What's that?" I asked. Jesse chuckled. "Something that Olivia is probably going to beat me for by giving it to you," he said. "But you should see it." Jesse handed the crumpled paper to me and stood up. "I'll see you later Genji." He said before waving and walking out of my room. As I started to un-crumple the paper, my nurse walked in with my dinner. I set the paper down on the table by my bed as my nurse set my food down on my lap. I'll have to look at it after dinner.
God I hate hospital food. Dinner today was steak, a small salad, and a fruit cup. You'd think that sounds good right? Wrong. So, so wrong. The steak was cold, the salad was literally two large lettuce leaves with chopped tomatoes on it, and the fruit cup consisted of mostly fruit juice and three cubes of mango. Luckily during my dinner, Dad, Angela, and Hanzo came to see me and Angela said she would try to sneak me in some McDonald's after school tomorrow. Best. Sister. Ever. On another note, I think my fall really affected Hanzo, because even though I'm recovering pretty well, Hanzo still looks so worried everytime I see him. Like I'd slip through the cracks unexpectedly or something. He also looks like he hasn't slept for a few days. Although Dad kinda looks like he hasn't had a good nights sleep in a while either.
About 15 minutes before the digital clock in my room struck 8:00pm, my nurse came in and told my family that visiting time was almost over and that I had to get ready for bed. I said goodbye to my dad and my siblings before they left my room and by 8:00pm exactly, I was left alone. They never keep hospital rooms completely dark, so there was enough light in the room for me to read the crumpled piece of paper that Jesse gave me. I straighten the paper out and quickly noticed Olivia's handwriting on the page. I know it's her handwriting because she has a distinct way of writing the letters 'g' and 'y'. Plus, there was a doodle of a sugar skull on the back of the page so that also kinda gave it away. I then read through the page.
'Dear Genji,
I'm not good at expressing my feelings, especially in writing. And especially under these circumstances. But I need you to know about my true feelings. Ever since we were in middle school, I sort of had a crush on you. I always thought you were so funny and I loved hanging around you. I'm hoping that by letting you know of my true feelings for you now, you and I could maybe go on a date? After you get out of the hospital of course.'It looked like she was about to writing another sentence, but it was covered in eraser marks and scribbles.
"Wow..." I found myself saying out loud. 'Olivia has a crush on me?' I thought. Now that I think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense. Why she always asks to be my partner in school projects (even though I do literally nothing but procrastinate), why she always sits by me at lunch, and why I see her walking past my bedroom door when she's hanging out with Hana (even though Hana's bedroom door comes before mine). And now thank I think about Olivia alone, I realize that she's always been pretty cute.
I don't think Olivia wanted to give me this letter, which makes sense as to why Jesse said she'll beat him up if she found out. But I need to talk to her. Guess it will have to wait until she visits me again.
