Monday. God...I hate Mondays. Mostly I just hate being woken up at 7:00am for five days out of the week. After Amelíe and I turned off our individual alarms, we both got out of bed and started our morning routine. Amelíe likes to make her bed every morning. I however, am not the same. Along with dirty clothes and a few throw pillows, my bed was littered with crumpled up pieces of notebook paper. After Amelíe finished making her bed, she walked over to my bed and picked one up. "Your side of the room is disgusting." She said, throwing the piece of paper into the trash bucket by our bedroom door. As I tried picking out an outfit for the day, I mocked my big sister's attitude. "Your side of the room is too clean maybe," I said in a snarky tone. "You need to loosen up a bit." I could practically hear her roll her eyes at me as she scoffed and walked back over to her side.
I decided to wear one of my favorite outfits, something I figured could make me feel better about today. My outfit consisted of my favorite pair of black boots, deep purple shredded jeans, a dark purple long sleeved band shirt, an even darker purple denim vest, and a few spikes bracelets. What can I say, I'm a fan of purple. Once I was finished getting dressed, I grabbed my notebook that sat on my desk and my backpack too before leaving the room and heading downstairs for breakfast. Dad was making omelettes and toast in the kitchen with his favorite 90s R&B group playing practically on full blast, meanwhile Jesse sat at the dining table with a glass of milk and some unfinished homework he was catching up on. I sat in the seat next to him and set my notebook down in front of me. "Got a pencil I can borrow?" I asked him. He chuckled as he reached into his backpack beside him and handed me a blue mechanical pencil. "You gonna remember to give it back to me?" He asked. "Probably not." I said jokingly. I then looked down at a blank page of notebook paper and tried to focus.
I'm working on a...project. A gift, actually...for Genji. I've been trying to gather my feelings all at once and trying to put it in words and in writing, but everything I write comes out all stupid or just weird. I've written so many rough drafts of this letter that my notebook has become noticeably thinner than it was three days ago. I put the pencil to the paper and tried writing my first sentence. I guess my frustration was visible, because Jesse looked at me strangely. "You okay?" He asked. I scoffed. "Not really." Suddenly, Lúcio came sliding down the banister of the stairs and entered the dining room energetically. He sat down in his chair and danced in the seat. He's got his headphones in, but they were very loud, and he was listening to something you'd hear in Geometry Dash. Jesse turned back to me. "Need to talk about it?" He asked. I nodded. "Later. Can I have a ride to school?" I asked. Jesse smiled and pat my shoulder. "Sure."
Amelíe then made her grand appearance to the dining room and sat over in her usual spot at the table. When Dad noticed all four of us in the dining room, he made our plates and served each of us breakfast before serving himself. We ate together as a family before it was about time for us all to get to school. Dad was the first to leave, then Amelíe and Lúcio. When it was time for Jesse and I to leave, I walked to his car and set my backpack in the backseat while Jesse locked up the house. I climbed into the passenger's side with my notebook and tried to continue writing what I was working on during breakfast. Jesse finished locking the front door and climbed into the drivers side while handing me his backpack. I threw it in the backseat next to mine and Jesse started the car. I turned up the radio, Jesse pulled out of the driveway, and the drive to school began.
Halfway there, Jesse turns the radio down slightly. "So what's been causing you to become so bummed out lately?" He asked. I looked away from my paper and sighed. "I'm working on something...that I want to give to someone. Someone I care about a lot." I explained. Jesse chuckled. "You've got a crush on someone?" He teased. I felt my face grow warm and I actually started shaking a bit. "N-No!" I stuttered. "I don't have a crush on anyone, stupid!" I snapped. Jesse stopped at a red light and started laughing hysterically. "Olivia, come on," He started in between his laughter. "I know you have a crush on Genji." My heart felt like it fell into my shoes. "What?! How do you know?! Were you looking through my video-diaries again?!" I yelled at him. The light turned green and Jesse continued driving to school. "It's so obvious Olivia!" He chuckled. "...and yes, I saw that entry you made last summer about the time we visited The Morrison's summer cabin with the lake." I punched Jesse's arm and slumped into my seat. "I'm so embarrassed..." I mumbled. "So what, are you going to tell Genji? Or Hanzo?" I asked. Jesse shook his head as he pulled into the school's student parking lot. "Of course not, that's for you to talk to Genji about." He said as he pulled into a spot between Amelíe's car and Angela's car. "Thanks for that." I said as I grabbed my backpack from the backseat. Jesse smiled. "No problem." I exited his car and started walking towards the front doors before I was stopped by Jesse's voice. "Oh but that reminds me," he shouted from behind me. Jesse quickly caught up to me and smirked. "I may or may not have told Genji the other day that you had a present for him." He said with a wink before sprinting to the front doors.
