This chapter takes place in the future from where the story last left off. The next chapter will be day 13, not the day after Halloween.
The date was October 31st, All Hallows' Eve, or more commonly known as Halloween. It's a Thursday, and Overwatch High and other schools in the area decided to give the children the day off to celebrate. But the chaos had already begun, despite being 7:00 in the morning.
Brigitte woke to the sunlight coming through her window, shining her face as a wake up call. She groggily sat up in bed and wiped the remaining sleep away from her hazel eyes. She looked at the calendar that hung beside her bed stand and gasped, realizing what day it was. She quickly grasped her phone that sat beside her lamp and fumbled to unlock it.
The time read 7:08am. She's late. She silently cursed herself before stumbling out of bed, rushing to her closet. She pulled out the clothes she was going to wear today, a black sweater, some jeans and her usual pair of converse shoes. She also pulled out a large black bag wrapped around one of her clothing hangers. This was her costume. She set the bag down quickly, yet gently on her bed while she recklessly got dressed. She pulled her hair into a messy ponytail and hastily slipped on her shoes. She then reached under her bed and pulled out a large, thin moving box, one that you would put a couple medium sized paintings in if you were moving houses. But Brigitte was not moving. This box contains and essential part of her costume. She carefully put the box under her left arm and picked up her wrapped costume with the other. She quickly made her way down the stairs of her rather large house. Half of her siblings were still eating breakfast while the other half were already in their Halloween costumes, pretending to battle each other in the home's spacious living room. Brigitte quickly ran into the kitchen and grabbed an apple out of the fruit bowl on the island counter and began to run out again, her siblings and mother giving her strange looks.
"Brigitte?" Her mother called to her. Brigitte skidded to a halt and stopped in front of her. "Don't you want something more for breakfast? I made omelettes." Her mother offered. Brigitte smiled. "Sorry mother, I'm late! I'm meeting Hana and Satya at the Morrison's house to finish our costumes!" She took a big bite out of her apple before running to grab her car keys by the front door. She quickly grabbed the keys to her truck and ran outside, making sure to shut the door gently behind her. She sped-walked to her truck and unlocked it, setting her costume in the passenger's side. She shut the door and practically ran to the driver's side. She climbed inside and started the engine. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and quickly dialed Hana's number. It picked up almost immediately.
"Hey! Are you on your way? You said you'd be here by 6:30!" Hana's voice rang over speakerphone. Brigitte set the phone down on the passenger's seat, on top of her costume, so she could drive and talk on the phone at the same time. She pulled out of her driveway.
"Yeah I know, I forgot to set my alarm last night. I'm just leaving my house, I'll be there in a couple minutes." She said.
"Okay, see you in a sec!" Hana's voice said before she hung up. Brigitte winced. How could she let herself be late? On this day of all?
It didn't take long for her to get to the Morrison's house. She parked her truck in front of the house and quickly shut it off. She climbed out and quickly grabbed her costume too. She quickly walked up the paved walkway to the front door and rang the doorbell. The door opened a couple seconds later and Angela was there. "Brigitte! You're here!" She greeted as she let her enter. Angela took the box that Brigitte was carrying under her arm as she led her into the spacious living room of the house. Sitting on the floor and almost buried in cloth, cardboard, and other materials was Hana and Satya. Hana perked up as Brigitte walked in. "Finally!" She exclaimed. Brigitte chuckled as she set her wrapped costume on the couch while Angela set the box nearby.
