(yall, first Things first, that art ain't mine. Second, prepare for feels, cause it's gonna get sad real fast. Just an FYI)
When the bell rang, indicating that the day was now over, I happily ran out of the health classroom and towards the entrance to the gymnasium. In the crowd of students, I see Fareeha quickly and she sees me too. She makes her way out of the crowded area to get close to me. "How was class?" I ask. She chuckled. "Same thing everyday. Pretty sure Coach Zarya hates me haha." Fareeha said as we began walking towards the doors that lead to the back of the school. "Now why would anyone hate you?" I say. I could faintly see a tint of pink go across her face as she shrugged her shoulders. What a cutie. When we get to the doors, I quickly grab her hand. "Come on, I wanna show you something!" I say. Fareeha smiles and with our hands intertwined, we run out the doors and towards the football field. We make our way towards the bleachers and stop.
"Where's the football team?" I ask. "They've got a game at Gibraltar High tonight." Fareeha answers my question. "Perfect!" I say. "Okay, follow me." I lead Fareeha to the back of the bleachers, normally a bad place to be as some students would go here to do drugs or other nasty things, but what I'm about to show Fareeha will certainly blow her mind. As we crawl around underneath the metal seats, ducking the bars that would knock us in the head if we weren't paying attention to where we were going. "Oh, it's right here!" I say and kneel down. Fareeha kneels next to me and I point to some graffiti on the wall that the bleachers were connected to. She gasps. "Oh my god, no way!" "Isn't it cool?!" I ask excitedly.
The graffiti displayed 6 very well done portrait drawings that were done in permanent, black paint. Though, it does look like they were carved with a knife first before the paint went on. Each drawing was a younger picture of all our parents, and below their portraits their signature, and below that a sentence that read,
"Best friends until the end, 1991"
"I can't believe they did this! And that it's still intact!" Fareeha said, shocked as she traced over her mother's picture. I looked at dad's picture, giggling. "He told me he was such a typical, American, high school senior at the time. He joined football, went to parties, got drunk...got high." I said, cracking up at the last detail I gave. Fareeha also got a good chuckle out of it. "Mom told us that she was the school weirdo. She was into things that would normally interest boys, and she said that's how she met Jack. He was on the football team and her favourite player." Fareeha explained. "Figures hahaha!" I laugh. I look over at the portrait of a young Torbjorn and Ingrid. "God, even back then they were the couple that could never keep their hands off each other." I suggested. "I bet everyone was so annoyed. 'Yes! Anything for you Ingrid, my lady love!' Hahaha!!" Fareeha impersonated and laughed. Such a terrible yet accurate impersonation of Torbjorn.
"Ah well, we'll have to tell them what we saw today." I said, starting to crawl out from under the bleachers. Fareeha followed and when we both exited the tight space, we chuckled. "Hey...Angela?"
"Yes?"
"Can I tell you something...that means the world to me?"
"...of course."
"Well...it's-"CLANK
THUDThe two of us were startled by a sound that resonated not far from us. It sounded like something metal followed by something heavy colliding with the ground. "What was that?!" I say, still startled. Fareeha stayed quiet, maybe trying to listen if it would sound again. It didn't. "Should we look for the source?" I ask. "Sure. Maybe it was a raccoon?" Fareeha said. "I don't think so..." I had a bad feeling, but I didn't know why. When Fareeha and I turned the corner, we were not prepared for the sight to behold...especially me. It was Genji, and he looked badly hurt. Not far from him was a piece of the railing from the school rooftop. Did he...did he jump? I was frozen, only being able to let out a small scream. Fareeha tensed and held onto my arm. When I noticed that Genji was not moving at all, I jumped into action. "GENJI!!!!!!!!!!" I screamed, running towards his unmoving body. I held onto his hand and checked for a pulse. I couldn't feel one at the time, as I was shaking hysterically and panicking badly. "Oh god...Angela is he..." Fareeha struggled to find her words as I checked for any sign of life. I then leaned my ear gently against Genji's chest, practically praying for a heartbeat.
Ba-bump
Ba-bump
He had a heartbeat. I let out a large sigh of relieve. "Oh my god...ok, don't worry Genji, we're going to get you help." I said to Genji, unaware yet hoping he could hear me. I turned to Fareeha and told her to call the police. As she was doing so, I took out my phone and texted the group chat I had made that included Hana, Hanzo, and Dad.
Angela: Come to the soccer field quickly, Genji is badly hurt.
I didn't know is Hanzo or Hana were still on school grounds, I put my phone on the grass next to me and continued to hold Genji in a comfortable position as I examined his body. He had scars and bruises, most likely from the fall. I was only praying he had broken anything or bleeding internally. I could hear Fareeha not far behind me, talking to the 911 operator. Suddenly, my phone buzzed. It was the group chat. Everyone had read the message, but only Hana responded.
Hana: OMG, what happened? I'm on my way
Angela: He fell off the roof, I think intentionally. He has a stable heartbeat, Fareeha is on the phone with police
Not long after sending the text, I could hear running footsteps coming from behind. It was Hanzo. He stopped running when he saw us. He whispered something under his breath as he walked towards Genji and I. I could see tears starting to well up in his eyes. "Hanzo...I think Genji was trying to commit suicide..." I say, resisting the urge to break down into tears. Hanzo knelt down next to me and just stared at Genji. He wasn't saying anything. Suddenly, the sound of running footsteps were once again audible. It was Hana and Olivia. As they came closer, Hana let out a loud gasp while Olivia started to cry. "Oh my god...is he dead?!" Hana asked frantically and shaking violently. I shook my head. "No...he's still alive...but he needs a hospital." I say. It was at this time that sirens could now be heard in the coming closer to the school. Suddenly, my phone started to ring, indicating that I am receiving a phone call. I pick it up and was met with my father's frantic voice on the other end.
"Angela?! I'm on my way to the school, I just saw an ambulance, what's wrong with Genji?"
"He's...he's alive, but not doing so well...I think he tried to kill himself dad..."
Dad was silent for a moment, I could hear him let out a shaky sigh.
"I'm almost there, just hang tight."
The call then cut out. He must've hung up. The sirens were louder now, they must be at the front of the school by now. Sure enough, I could see an ambulance and a police car pull into the student parking lot. Fareeha hung up with the operator and ran to go get the authorities. Two paramedics with a stretcher, Officer Oledele, and a policeman followed Fareeha back to us. The paramedics put Genji on the stretcher and carried him back to the ambulance as the policeman and Officer Oledele escorted us back to the police car. Waiting for us there was another policeman, Principal Winston, Mr. Reyes, Ms. Amari, and dad. Everything that happened then was a blur. Dad hugged all of us. We were all crying, terrified that Genji wouldn't make it. When the police finished talking to the principal, they concluded that Genji attempted to end his life and strictly told the school to either add higher fences to the roof, or prevent any student from going up there again. I think they'll be adding higher fences. God, I just hope Genji gets to see another day.
