I bowed my head and kept my eyes lowered to the ground in order to show my submission. "How can I be of service to you Alpha?"

The Alpha wore a two-piece, brown suit with a red tie. Not a hair was out the place on his blonde head.

What the hell did you want you psycho?

"These are our youngest members of this program, 123 and 321. But I was told that you were the one that found both of them? Correct?"

"Yes, that's right."

"They were both tested this morning and both passed with flying colors, so I also invited them to stay here too. Marmee said you were but in charge of taking care of the girls, so I expect that you will continue on with that role. Correct?" he asked.

"Yes, that is correct Alpha."

"Well aren't you going to thank me for my kindness in inviting them to come to stay with me too?" he asked.

"Yes Alpha, I am so grateful for taking them in."

"Even after you all betrayed me and stole from me?" he asked. "And I showed mercy."

I swallowed, knowing it would be a mistake if I let any anger into my next sentence. Visions of Beatrice being forced to drink that entire bottle of wine flashed before my eyes.

"Especially after all the kindness, you showed us. We are unworthy of your mercy."

Alpha Luka chuckled, "Yes, you should remember how unworthy you are. That is the reason the Moon Goddess turned her back on you in the first place."

Wow-what a prick? I wish I wasn't a Lunera so I could shift into a wolf right now to...oh god what was I even thinking right now?

"I have some questions I want to ask you, 23," he said abruptly.

Startled, I jerked my head up and mistakenly made eye contact with him. I quickly lowered my head once again.

Don't you dare think about it? He will be able to smell your fear.

"I would be happy to answer any questions, Alpha," I replied.

"Grayson if you can hear me, you need to get here now! I think that the Alpha is taking me alone to talk to him!" I screamed in my head. I wasn't sure if Grayson could hear me or not. It seemed we could only communicate telepathically when we were in the same room with each other or if I was in the space between our bond. But it couldn't hurt to try.

"Carol!" he said, his eyes shifting behind. "Take the Luneras to the rooms in the attic, the others are up there too."

"Yes Alpha," she said and ushered the kids to a door, barely visible unless you were looking for it. Behind it, a narrow staircase that wound itself into a wide-open unfinished space with exposed wooden beams. I wondered how they would expect us not to freeze up there tonight if that's what we were meant to stay.

Before the girls disappeared, Viola turned and gave me one last long look, before being ushered out of sight by Carol.

"Follow me," he said and I walked up the right side of the wooden staircase with me tailing close behind him.

Alpha Luka walked all the way down to the end of the hallway and opened the black door to his office. He stepped inside and crossed the Persian rug that covered the wooden floor to the desk where a laptop sat, opened but with its screen facing away from us. I stopped at the door, while I waited for further instructions, while he shifted the laptop to face us.

He turned to me and I lowered my eyes to my feet."

"Look at the screen," he commanded and I shifted my gaze upwards.

From where I stood, it looked like it was a video of a girl and a man sitting at a table, but I couldn't be too sure all the way across the room.

He turned to face me, his brown eyes staring coldly at me, and I lowered my eyes once again, so they were level with the laptop and not his eyes. He pointed at the screen.

"Tell me, what do you know about this girl?" he asked me. "Come here, you won't be able to see standing there."

I took a couple of reluctant steps into the room and stopped an arm's length away from the laptop. I squinted at the image on the screen.

I could see the woman had blonde curly and the man was bald.  The girl tilted her head up to look at the camera and my eyes widened.

Wait was that...Annie? As in Annie from the dinner and why was Connner sitting beside her at the table? Yes, it was! What was going on!?

But even in the even within the midst of my confusion, I felt relieved. For a second I thought he knew about Grayson and I.

"Yes, she's a human that works with me at Al's Diner."

"Today she was caught trying to come onto our land. And I want to know what the purpose was for this? Samuel,  doesn't seem to know why she would try to trespass on our land?"

My palms were beginning to sweat. "I think she was trying to see what life was like at Pine Ridge."

"And why would she want to do that?" he pressed.

"She wanted to write a paper about it for her Media class."

"And how do you know this?"

His voice was calm, too calm, and it was terrifying.

"She approached me about it. And asked if she could interview me."

"And what did you say?"

"I said no," I replied.

"Come closer."

"Yes Alpha," I replied and took a step closer to him.

"Closer," I took another step and suddenly he grabbed my hair and slammed my head into the surface of the desk.

Bright lights flashed before my eyes, and I wobbled a little bit on my feet. He yanked me up by my hair before I could collapse on the ground.

His hot breath assaulted my face. "Why weren't we informed a human approached you with questions about Pine Ridge?"

"I'm  sorry Alpha, I told her I wouldn't answer any of her questions so I thought..."

He slammed my head back into the table.

"You aren't supposed to think you are supposed to obey and serve your purpose!" he untangled his fingers from my hair, only to use the palm of that hand to press my head hard into the table.

"Alpha," the sound of Grayson's voice filled the room, the same moment my eyes landed on a paper cutter on the desk beside me.
