———————————————————"Hi I'm Abigail, and I'll be your waitress this evening. May I get you anything to drink?" I nearly jumped out of my skin at the addition of the new voice.
I tore my eyes from the window and locked eyes with a tall, slender girl, dressed in a long red poodle skirt, with a red ribbon tied up in her hair. Her hands were full of menus, which she set down on the white laminated surface in front of us.
I looked around the table "We need to go now!" I said loudly and Liam swiftly kicked me under the table.
I promptly returned his kick and he gritted his teeth together and grabbed a hand full of my sleeve and yanked me towards him and whispered.
"Don't let Annie know anything is wrong, I saw her too."
"What aren't you supposed to let me know?" Annie said loudly.
"Um..." the waitress said, "I'll come back when you are ready to tell me what you would like to drink."
The waitress turned away from us, clearly eager to get away from us.
"No! we are ready to order," Liam said loudly, and the waitress turned back to us, somewhat reluctantly.
She forced a smile onto her face. "What can I get you?" she asked.
"I'll have a chocolate milkshake," Liam said cheerfully to the waitress.
"I'll just have a water..." I said.
"I'll just have a water too," Annie's eyes wandered out the window. No doubt, she was looking for what I had been so startled by.
"Coming right up!" she said and quickly hurried away from the table.
"What was that outside just now?" I whispered to Liam, once the waitress had left.
"A witch or a magic prationer," he whispered back, "and if we could both see us, she was astral projecting to both of us. She can't get close though because she has not actually physically touched us unless...have you ever seen her before?"
I shook my head.
"Good, that means she can't see much of the landscape around us. So, we got nothing to worry about for now."
"Then what was the point of her projecting herself to us?"
"I can't say for sure, but I can say Grayson is friends with a lot of witches and magic practitioners. He may have asked one for a favor. I take it that your phone call did not go well."
So Grayson had sent one of his friends to spy on me, after telling me he found another mate!? I bit my tongue to keep my anger from showing on my face.
"Looks like it didn't..."
Annie cleared her throat loudly and held up the menu to her face. "So, are we being followed or something?"
"No," I said quickly
Annie peaked over the menu at me" But why were you so scared just now when you looked out the window."
"I just thought I saw someone. I was mistaken," I replied.
"Hey it effects me too if someone is stalking us!"
"No one is stalking us," Liam replied.
"Than why are the two of you sitting there whispering to each other, and looking out the window like you saw a ghost? Clearly you both saw something out there!"
