Rossi stood abruptly and turned away from me. I pulled myself off the group and saw my brother approaching us, slowly, almost casually alone and with no Annie in sight. A quick scan of the barren landscape revealed her though, in the spot I had last left Grayson.

Annie knelt beside one of three dark shapes that laid motionless on the ground. From here, they looked like road kill, which I would occasionally spy on the side of the road outside the window on the way to work, or school back in Pine Ridge. I felt my breath hitch in my throat at the sight, and all thoughts about being a natural born  witch and Hectate vanished from my mind.

Before my brain and my body could catch up to one another and took a running stride towards where Grayson laid. Before I could take another stride, I made eye contact with Liam. He shook his head slightly at me and I stumbled to a stop. The next second, I felt a hand on my shoulder and Rossi's voice was filling my ears.

"You stay beside me, Grayson is fine. He is just under a sleeping spell, a spell you could break through your bond if you get too close to him."

I turned my head to look at her, while I wondered how she had caught up to me without me follow behind. My hearing was not as good as a wolve's, but it was a lot better than that of a human. I should have heard her come up behind me.

"If you stay beside me, I won't use magic on you. You saw my powers, I don't think you would like me to use them again."

I shook my head  at her. I too didn't want her to use her powers on me. But still my eyes wondered over to where Grayson was lying on the ground. I wished I could still go up and check on him.

She looked towards Liam. "Brother, you know that I am not here to harm either one of you now? What are the spirits telling you?"

Liam bobbed his head, while his eyes ran up and down my body. before catching my eyes again.

"You alright?" he asked.

"Yes, I replied, although I had a feeling my sweatshirt and pants weren't. The cold wind was hitting a lot more of my skin than before. The coldness felt good right now against my skin that had been burning moments ago, but I doubted that it still properly covered me.

"What did you do to the Daywalker?"

"Same thing I did to my husband and Grayson. Put them asleep with a spell tied to the sun. As soon as it sets, it will break and they will wake."

"Why would you do that?"

She chuckled and shook her head at him. "You know why. The spirits speak to you too."

"So they told you to get rid of them?"

"Yes," she replied. "Often if one person fails to complete their demands, another will step up to full fill it."

"Why would the spirits want you to get rid of Grayson and your own husband ?" I asked and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Rossi shift her head to look at me.

"Do you really have to ask?  Grayson was going to take you away,by force if he needed to. He would have never let you go to Red Crescent."

"But why your husband and Aaron? Why put them asleep?"

"I assume Aaron is the name of the Daywalker? That was an accident, he just happened to be in the way of the spell I casted. My husband also didn't want me going to Red Crescent. But enough about that, we need to summon Hecate and get to Red Crescent before the sun sets. Do you know how to create a summoning circle..." she snapped her fingers at Liam. "Your name, please?"

"Liam Crest , didn't the spirits tell you that?"

Rossi let out a short laugh, "Really? So they tell you everything. And I never met you as a child, just your sister."

"I don't think it's a good idea to summon Hecate. Who knows what price she might exact?"

"Your sister nearly cook herself with her magic, and you want the her to face Him without summoning Hecate?"

"True, do you have salt to draw the circle?"

"Why's there a rush to get to Red Crescent?" I said suddenly and once again, I felt there eyes on me. "I know what is happening there is bad and it needs to be stopped, but does it really need to happen right at this instant? Couldn't we hid, while I learn how to control whatever magic I have, and then go face him?"

"We could wait but that would mean whatever is happening in Red Crescent will only get worst," Liam replied. "It's better if we don't wait at all."

"And what is exactly happening in Red Crescent?" I turned towards Liam. "I didn't say anything before but I have a feeling that you are hiding something from me  in Aaron's note."

"Yes," Liam admitted much to my surprise. "I was because I was afraid if you knew. You would refuse to go."
