The wind whipped her long dark girl while took a step back from the car and Grayson appeared in her place and I came face to face with my mate, and the last person I was expecting to see in the world. In fact, I was having a hard time convincing myself that this wasn't a dream.

He looked awful. His eyes were lined with dark circles and his blonde hair was in disarray. A forest green knitted sweater peeked out from underneath his bulky gray winter coat. He reached up and wrapped his left hand around the car frame and began to drum his fingers against the metal , while we stared at each other, not speaking.

"I will give you two a moment to yourselves," the girl said from just behind Grayson in that same heavy accent as before and drifted away and out of sight.

"Shouldn't you be with your other mate?"  I asked

Grayson's fingers stopped there tapping and be winced at my words, like I had slapped him across the face.

"I don't have another mate, I just have you."

I nodded my head absently at his words, but not ready to believe them just yet.  I still felt the stinging from our earlier phone conversation.

"Look, I know hat I said earlier and I'm an idiot. I did it because I was angry and I hoped that it would make you tell me where you were. Clearly, it backfired."

I nodded in agreement. He wasn't wrong.

"How did you find me?" My eyes shifted to the barren landscape behind him. Strong gusts of wind were still tearing through it, and it was causing the car to shudder slightly. We were in the middle of nowhere and I was pretty sure you Richard's car couldn't be seen from the road.

"Rossi, the women just now, she was able to help me track you down. She's a witch and a good friend of mine. I met her when I was staying in Corricella. I stayed in her house for a little bit. She did something called astral projecting, and recognized the dinner that you were eating a. Apparently she's eaten there before, been to the town, and knew where you might be. Still not sure why or how she ended up in a town in the middle of nowhere like this."

I felt my mind begin to swirl with a couple hundred questions. And  I could tell that Grayson had his own questions to.

"We can see what that is about later," Grayson said, like he had just read my mind.

I nodded and watched in silence, while he climbed into the truck and shut the door behind him. He turned towards me.

"Where's Liam?" he asked.

"I don't know. But I should warn you there's a daywalker that is feeding right now. I came up here to wait until he is done. He's.. helping Liam. But he's going to come looking for me afterwards."

Grayson's eyes briefly flashed yellow. And he reached out and brushed a few strands of my hair from my neck, before I could react.  I quickly retaliated by swatting his hands away.

"He didn't feed on me, if that's what you were looking for!"

He frowned, and opened his mouth to say something and I suddenly I just felt tired.  Tired of being afraid. Too tired to have any more conversations that kept us apart, so I leaned over and kissed him.

Grayson inhaled in surprise, and than he let out a soft growl. And his arms reached out and yanked me onto his lap.

Our  mouths moved together hungrily, while we tangled our fingers in each other's hair.

Grayson was the one to break the kiss. He  pulled away and leaned back  in his seat  and stared up at me.

"I missed you," he said softly.

"I missed you too." I reached out and touched the side of his face.  He closed his eyes, and placed his hand over mine.

"I'm going to warn you Aurelia, if we kiss again. You're leaving this truck as my mate."

I opened my mouth to reply, but just then there was a knock on the window. We both jumped, and looked up to see a man with a pointy nose and beady eyes staring at us from the driver's side window. The last time I had seen that face, it had transformed into a griffin and attacked us.

I gasped and dove off of Grayson's lap and  onto the gun in the drivers seat. I fumbled with it in an attempt to raise it.

"Grayson get down!" I yelled.

The man's dark eyes narrowed at me from the other side of the car window, but they quickly shifted to the left like he had something more important to watch.

Grayson, who had facing the stranger, snapped his heads towards me, and his eyes widen.

"Put that down Aurelia ! He's a friend! He's Rossi's husband. The memory that you saw when I took you to Corricella was when he thought Rossi was sleeping with me. It was a total misunderstanding!"

"Grayson!" the man said in the same heavy accent as the witch, while he yanked open Grayson's door. "Tell your woman to point her gun at the crazy man running at us!"
