Grayson shoved past the other Alphas without a word. Alpha Christopher's wine glass was thrust into his chest. Red wine splashed up and left a red stain on the front of his white dress shirt. Alpha Christopher's eyes flashed yellow for a brief moment, before returning to normal.
Grayson stormed into the room towards me but stopped when he was only a few feet away. His golden eyes were fixed on me. He looked mad as hell. I stared helplessly back at his perfectly chiseled jawline, full lips, and clean-shaven face from the desk. If I had to say one thing about my death, it was certainly good-looking.
"Please don't say anything, I'm dead if you say anything."
I pleaded with my eyes.
Grayson must have picked up on my distress because something in his face softened and his eyes faded from the yellow into a soft brown.
"Grayson!" Alpha Luka snapped.
Grayson looked at the other Alphas standing at the door like he was surprised to see them standing there.
"Alpha Christopher... Alpha Damien..." A look of horror flashed across Grayson's face. He must not have realized who he had been shoving aside. "Pardon my rudeness, I lost control for a second. I'm a little tired so my wolf is on edge. I smelled unfamiliar people and my wolf just reacted."
He was lying. He must have figured out what I was, and he obviously didn't want the Alphas of the two biggest packs to know he was mated to a Lunera. He would probably tell Alpha Luka and that would be the end.
"A Lunera...?"
I looked over a Grayson. Had he just said something? I thought I just heard his voice. No, must have been my nerves making me think I was hearing things. If the bond between mates were strong enough, they could sometimes speak telegraphically to one another. We weren't mated though and that was rare.
Christopher nodded his head and said in a calm voice, "All good son, I'm sure you met no disrespect by shoving past me and causing me to spill wine on myself. Do you lose control of your wolf often when you are feeling tired, because being an Alpha is a tiring job? You might have trouble handling it in the future?"
There was a moment of tense silence in the room and no one spoke.
Grayson nodded his head. "Of course, sir, being tired is no excuse for losing control." '
Grayson hadn't lost control for a moment because he was tired. He had lost control because his mate had rejected him and knocked him out. Only he and I knew that though.
"That's right and it sucked," that was Grayson's voice, no doubt about it? my eyes flew towards him. He still faced away from me and towards the Alphas.
I had definitely heard that, but it appeared no one else had. Was I going crazy?
Grayson's voice came again. "No, you're not. I don't know how or why but we are speaking telepathically right now."
"Thank you, sir," Grayson said to Alpha Christopher.
"Since you are so tired Grayson, why don't you go to your room and rest?" Alpha Luka asked. "I wasn't expecting you at the party anyways since your long journey. Still, it was a disappointment you didn't join us after all."
