"WHERE DID THEY GO!?" his voice came out as a guttural growl this time.

I didn't care if Annie was Liam's mate, who he had to claim to save Red Crescent. If Aaron didn't kill me, I was going to kill Liam for leaving me alone with an angry Daywalker!

"I don't know!" I replied. A gust of wind tore through the empty land and howled loudly into my ear. But its cold caress is not what caused me to shiver.

His eyes narrowed into red slits. "TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW!!?"

I shook my head, "Not until you calm down."

No way was going to tell him what I had just figured out, especially if he was already this angry. Not if Daywalkers handled things like werewolves.

The muscles under Aaron's shirt tensed and instinct told me he was getting ready to pounce. Aaron took a threatening step towards me and I turned and bolted into the house. I leaped over the grocery bags and propelled myself down the dim hallway.

When dealing with a preditor, it was not wise to turn your back and run. It was better to make slow and deliberate movements if you wanted a better chance to escape. But escaping is not what I had in mind, because it wasn't an option. So, I was going to have to go with the next best thing, make myself more threatening

I heard Aaron follow after me, silently. His footsteps barely made a sound while he pursued after me, almost like he was weightless.

Just feet in front of me in the hallway just outside the bathroom, the shotgun Annie had let fall from her hands, laid where she had left it. I dove from it. My hands wrapped around the wooden handle and I raised the metal barrel. Gun in hand, I turned around so fast, I half stumbled while my lower body tried to keep up with my upper body.

The metal tube collided with Aaron's face and flew into his nose with a loud crack. I stared in awe at my handwork while he stumbled back, his nose now silently crooked and shifted to the side. I hadn't even realized he had been that close to me. Another second and he would have gotten me and I didn't want to think about what would have happened after.

I pointed the gun at him, "I'll shoot if you if you take another step towards me!"

Aaron reached a hand up to his nose and with a sickening crunch, he snapped his nose back in place.

His eyes faded back to their original cold blue color. He took a clumsy step back from me and he blinked at me with the same dazed quality as someone who had been awoken from a deep sleep.

"Sorry... I need to eat something," he murmured and turned from me. He raised his hand and sniffed the air, before he stumbled towards the living room kept the gun trained on him the entire time while remaining keenly aware of all his movements. He disappeared through the door.

What? How had he switched the demeanor so quickly, it was almost as if I had knocked some sense into him?

I kept my weapon at the ready, while the sound of teeth tearing into something soft filled my ears. Aaron reappeared a few moments later, with the burger Annie had gotten him in his hand. Red tinted liquid ran down his chin with each bite he took.

The rest of the burger quickly disappeared into his mouth.

Once done, he focused his gaze on me. His face was calm, but his eyes were turbulent. "I.m sorry for whatever just happened, I must of had a blackout, it has been a while since I had one of them... They happen when I'm weaker and stressed. I  haven't eaten or rested and the sun is fully up. Where's Annie and why are you pointing a gun at me?"

Now completely baffled, I stared back at him.

"You don't remember!?"

"I remember going to sleep after you guys left for dinner."

"We came back and Annie tried to wake you up..." I began and recounted everything that had happened, up until he had chased me inside the house, and I had smacked him with the gun.

A look of dismay fell across Aaron's face and he pressed his thumb and pointer finger to his head.

"Something much worse could have happened. She must know I'm not human anymore, Annie is not stupid and she now she knows something is wrong with me. I never wanted her to her involved, but what choice did I have? I had to get that letter to your brother. But I didn't trust that someone from Pine Ridge wouldn't come after her.

I should have just told her the truth. I get why she ran away. I just don't understand why she didn't take you with her. Why take your brother?"

I opened my mouth to answer.

This wasn't going to be pleasant.

"Actually don't answer that. I can tell just by looking at your face, your answer is going to be...stressful. I'm going to have to feed a little more answer this do you think your brother will hurt her?"

"No."

He nodded his head absently.

"You should leave until I'm done feeding. Just in case. I'll find you, and you'll tell me what you know okay?"

I nodded. I had no doubt that he would be able to track me down, wherever I went.

"There's groceries behind you."

"Thanks, but I need something a little fresher, I heard some rats running around down in the basement. I'm going down there right now, leave when you hear me reach the bottom of the steps."

He walked towards the door leading towards the basement, which meant he moved towards me. With each step he took towards me, I took a step backward.

He grabbed the heavy, gray wooden to the basement and swung it open, before disappearing from my sight once again. I listened while the steps creaked under his feet until I heard his footsteps on the cement floor.

I waited and listened for a couple of moments, before hurrying, gun in hand, towards the open front door. The second I stepped outside I had a new problem to face. The sun was shining, but a wicked wind was blowing and I old had a sweatshirt was not enough to shield me from it. Then I remembered Richards's truck.

I made my way up the steep dirt road, keeping my shoulders hunched against the cold wild whipping past me. When I reached the green truck and I saw that the driver's side door still hung wide open. I hadn't bothered shutting it while I had made my escape earlier. I climbed inside the driver's seat and shut the door, grateful to be out of the wind.

I laid the gun across my lap and my eyes landed on the ignition. I reached for the keys and turned it. The engine sputtered but did not roar to life. I repeated the motion a couple more times but with similar results, much to my dismay. I leaned forward and rested my head on the steering wheel and groaned.

Liam would come back from me, I was almost sure, but if he didn't? What if he claimed his mate, and decided to go straight to Red Crescent? I would be stranded here with Aaron!

I jerked upright when some opened the passenger door beside me. I turned, expecting to see Aaron, but instead, I came face to face with the dark-haired girl, in the long black dress I had seen watching me from across the road. She had on the same cat-eyed sunglass on, but no black smoke floated off her skin.

She smiled at me while I tried to process her existence. She turned away from me and called over her shoulder, with a very heavy accent I could not place.

"She's here Grayson!"
