Ukraine sat curled up beside the closet door. He let out a small choked sob, burying his face in his knees, trying to hide the fact that he was crying in case Canada came in to the room. Canada's fake affection was the last thing he needed right now.. He just.... Wanted to go home.. Every single argument that he had with his father.. He wished he could take it all back.
The Ukrainian felt tired.. Not physically, but emotionally. He'd rather not face all this... Ukraine was not the type to go binge eat whenever he got sad or stressed. He slept. That was his coping method. The dream world he had built for himself was much, much better than the harsh reality he had been dragged into. He never wanted this. How could anyone ever want this for themselves?
He slowly got up, shakily making his way over to the bed. If he could just.. Pass the time... Someone would rescue him eventually, right?
Ukraine crawled into his bed and pulled the blanket over himself. Tears continued to stream down his face as he fought back the urge to sob. If Canada heard him, he'd probably come into the room and try to comfort him. He let out quiet whimpers as he closed his eyes, praying that this would all be over soon.
Ukraine didn't even notice as the exhaustion finally took over him, slowly guiding him to sleep.
...
He awoke in cold sweat as he sat up in an instant. The Ukrainian's eyes darted around the room, but everything was pitch black. He could've sworn he saw something moving out the corner of his eye. Ukraine's heavy breaths filled the dark, quiet room.
Hesitantly, he crawled out of bed, feeling around the wall, just so he wouldn't run into anything. Ukraine's had not yet adjusted to the darkness, so seeing was a bit of a struggle.
He stopped walking for a moment, just trying to get his eyes to adjust. Ukraine then looked around the room, faint silhouettes of the furniture could be seen. He made his way over to the closet. It was oddly cold.. Ukraine was used to cold, but- it was seriously cold indoors. Why was that?
As much as he didn't want to, he put on one of Canada's hoodies, just for warmth. Ukraine then looked around the room, trying to rationalize the shadowy, looming figures that he saw out of the corner of his eye. Light switch. He needed a light switch.
He quickly made his way over to the door, turning on the lights. Just like that, the shadows made themselves known as nothing but clothes and furniture, that had no malicious intent. A soft sigh of relief left Ukraine's lips as he leaned against the door, trying to calm down. God, his heart was beating out of his chest. It almost felt like he was having a small heart attack.
The Ukrainian slowly grabbed onto the door handle and with a great deal of hesitation, he opened the door. He was greeted with nothing else other than that same, dreadful darkness that made shivers run down his spine.
"....C-...Canada...?" Ukraine weakly called out, not wanting to step into the dark living room, which was connected to the bedroom. When there was no response, Ukraine could feel nothing but dread. Where was Canada..? Keeping the Canadian's obsessive behavior in mind, Ukraine knew Canada wouldn't just- ignore him like that.
He quietly stepped out into the hallway. Maybe- Maybe he was just overthinking.. It seemed to be very late, and- Canada was probably asleep! Yes, yes- that seemed plausible...
The Ukrainian felt around the wall for a light switch, flinching a little when he touched it sooner than he had expected to. Ukraine turned on the light and looked over at the couch. Since he could not see if Canada was there or not over the back of the couch, he slowly approached it, feeling his stomach drop when Canada was not there.
Wh- Where was he?? Ukraine looked around the living room, just expecting to see something...Or someone. Of course, there was nothing.
"Canada??" Ukraine called out once more, this time louder. The thought of being stuck in the middle of nowhere all alone was terrifying... But in a way, much more comforting than bring stuck here with a fucking lunatic who didn't care about Ukraine's feelings.
Once again, there was no response. Ukraine held his breath, listening for the slightest of sounds, and when the only thing he could hear were the tree branches slowly scraping against the windows and the wind howling outside, he was really starting to get worried.
"Canadaaa?!" The Ukrainian cried out as he went from room to room, trying to find the man. Even if Canada had kidnapped him, Ukraine still could not deny the fact that he cared about the man.. They had been best friends for so long.. The feelings of worry and concern were only natural.
Canada was nowhere to be found. He was gone. The car keys that had sat on the coffee table were gone too... M- Maybe he had just gone somewhere.. But it was so late- why and where would Canada go at this time of night? It was too strange. Too- worrying.
...
Ukraine sat curled up on the couch, keeping his knees hugged close to his chest. He didn't.. He didn't know why he cared so much about Canada's well being.. Maybe this was why Ukraine almost fell into the Canadian's trap back when they were drinking tea together.
He glanced up at the wall, and a certain picture frame caught his eye. Ukraine was slightly taken aback, but he slowly stood up and approached it. It... It looked- out of place..
