⚠️ GORE WARNING ⚠️

Canada was in the woods. It waa getting quite dark, but, thankfully, he had brought a flashlight. It helped him navigate the eery forest and... Well... It also helped him to avoid bumping into any trees. Snow crunched under his feet, but he tried to be as quiet as possible, keeping an eye out for any wild  animals that could cause trouble.

This... This was going to be a long evening.

...

Ukraine gasped for breath, sitting down, slumped against the tree. He had been running for quite some time- with stops, of course, but now he ran only to keep himself warm. It was fucking freezing, to say the least. How long was he going to hold on for? He could turn back, but- he'd rather freeze to death than do that. Ukraine knew he was past the point of no return. He needed to keep going.

He got up. The slav shivered, but even then, his skin felt like it was on fire. His nose was runny, but with a wipe of his sleeve, he carried on. Ukraine didn't have time to waste. While he had been running, he'd come across some footprints in the snow, so he had decided to follow them. God, they went on for miles, literally.

Ukraine coughed as he walked, his slow pace turning into a jog which soon enough turned into another run as a light shined in the distance. It seemed to shift a bit, but Ukraine didn't care. It gave him hope. Hope that he'd finally make it out of there-

He ran out into the open, his eyes welling up with warm tears as a camp made itself seen in the near distance. Well- it was a single tent and a large, shining campfire, which seemed to be the source of the light. Ukraine didn't hesitate to run out into the woodless area like a madman, waving his hands up into the air, the awful adrenaline blocking out the feeling of the freezing cold creeping down his spine. "H- Hello-??? I- Is anyone here-??" Ukraine asked, his voice shaky. "P- P- Please-" He begged, but no one seemed to be around.

The campfire had some rather fresh wood in it, so someone had to be there!

Ukraine approached the campfire, practically falling to his knees beside it, curling up. He was so, so cold- The Ukrainian didn't even feel himself slumping to the side, slowly losing consciousness.

...

Ukraine awoke with a jolt, only to find himself somewhere new. It was a tent. The tent. How did he get inside of it...? He was wrapped up in a blanket, which was the only thing he didn't mind. He was confused more than anything. Hell, he barely even remembered the last hour of yesterday.

He slowly untangled himself from the blanket, but kept it over his shoulders as he crawled to the tent's entrance, unzipping it slowly.

Ukraine saw someone. Was it Canada? No- it wasn't. Thank god it wasn't. He kept staring for a few moments, trying to figure out if he'd ever seen that person before, but jolted as the person turned around. "Oh. Good. I thought you were never going to wake up." A gruff voice grumbled. Ukraine immediately recognize it.

The Ukrainian crawled out of the tent and practically lunged at his brother, hugging him tightly, which was gladly returned "Ukraine, i found you by some trees all unconscious and stuff." The Russian looked back at the burning campfire, patting the space beside him. Ukraine sat down.

"What are you even doing all the way out here? I thought you still lived back there-" Ukraine cut him off. "...What are you doing out here-?" Ukraine asked.

"Oh, of course. I'm camping." The Russian sighed. "Now you answer my question."
"Haven't you seen the news-?" Ukraine asked, pulling his blanket closer to himself.
"No, i've been camping for a while now."
"...Oh."
"What are you even doing out here without a coat or anything?"
"I was-..." Ukraine hesitated. He looked away, unsure of what to say. He didn't- God, he didn't know what to do, the uncertainty nipped at him like a bee sting.

"You were-?" Russia pressed on, but Ukraine didn't answer. He didn't know what to answer. Sure, he could just say he was kidnapped, but he didn't for whatever reason. "I got lost." Ukraine lied through gritted teeth, looking up at the other, tears welling in his eyes. "Mm." Russia nodded, looking down.

"Do you live in that house far out there?" Russia asked, motioning over to the way Ukraine had come from. "...Well- uhm- yes-? Actually no, i just-" Ukraine stuttered, before taking in a deep breath. Why the fuck hadn't he just said he was kidnapped?

"I...I was- I was kidnapped, you see-" Ukraine didn't even get to finish. "Kidnapped? My god- by who?" Russia looked over, his look softening as he examined the state Ukraine was in. Yes, the kidnapping theory had sounded insane, but- it did make sense, when you consider that Ukraine had randomly showed up at his camp, in the middle of the woods, his clothes dirty and wet.

"...I- I don't know." Ukraine lied. Again. He didn't want Canada to get in trouble. He- just- He believed when Canada said he hadn't wanted this, but he had seen an opportunity to run and he had taken it. It wasn't his fault. It- It wasn't!

"We have to get you home-" Russia stated, getting up, walking over to the tent, grabbing a few things. "R- Really-??" Ukraine asked, being genuinely in disbelief. This felt like a dream too good to be true. "What? Of course! Unless you want to stay out here, that is." Russia said, beginning to get his things together. "N- No! I-... I'd like to go home, please." Ukraine gave a small smile.

"Alright then-" Russia was cut off by an awfully loud gunshot. It made both Ukraine's and Russia's ears ring. Ukraine was so focused on blocking out the awful ringing that only a few moments later the awful pain in his leg began to make itself clear.

Bang.

Russia gasped for breath, falling to his knees as blood spilled from his abdomen. He clutched it, bending over as he sobbed.

Bang.

Another blood splatter. This time, Russia did not move again. Ukraine's eyes widened at the sight of his now lifeless brother. The person who saved him. It made him feel sick. It made tears spill from his eyes. It made him-

Ukraine awoke with a gasp, which died in his throat, causing him to cough desperately. Tears spilled from his eyes as he sat up, trying to catch his breath as sheer panic took over him, causing him to hyperventilate.

There was no camp, there was no campfire, there was no...Russia... He was still by that damn tree he had sat down at the first time. Ukraine sobbed, which was only made worse by that- that voice.

"Ukraine??" Canada called out worriedly as he shined his flashlight upon his poor Ukraine. The Ukrainian tried to scatter away, but simply fell over as he gasped for breath and cried. "Ukraine?? Why did you run away?? Are you alright??" The Canadian bombarded Ukraine with questions, but got only a single answer from the sobbing, freezing Ukrainian.

"I- I'm so sorry- i w- wont ever run away, j- just- please- don't hurt him-"
