Chapter 13

*Becca's P.O.V*

Oh no. He's gone. He's left me.

He's lost a lot of blood and he's probably dying right now. I'm trying to talk to him, in between cries, but I can't. He just won't reply. He must be dead. But I won't give up on him, If he lives through this I'm gonna be there to help him with his recovery.

A paramedic lifted up Dan's top and realised he'd lost a lot of blood. They know what they need to do. I was told to hang on tight. I figured that it must be a bumpy ride to the hospital. I sat down on the little seat built into the ambulance and held on for dear life.

The paramedics didn't have anything to stitch Dan up with in the ambulance, so they had to use cotton wool and put it in the wounds to clot the blood, hopefully then he should stop bleeding. They will get some stitches on his stomach when we get to hospital. The siren came on and off we went, now these guys sure do know how to drive. I swear he was going 70miles per hour on a 30mph road. I was scared but kind of excited at the same time!

When we got to the hospital, Dan was rushed inside and I was taken in a wheelchair inside incase I had any injuries. They had to check me over. I was taken on A&E ward to have my lip stitched back up. It didn't take too long and it didn't hurt that much. The nurse who did it was really gentle, I wish she could do Dan's too, but probably won't be allowed to.

After I was stitched up I asked the nurse who was wheeling me around to take me to Dan's ward to see Dan. I needed to know whether he was okay or not. She took me into the lift and pressed the button to go to floor 6. When we were out the lift we went to the reception desk and asked for Dan Wickingham. She asked what relationship did I have with Dan. I told her I was his girlfriend. She looked like she didn't believe me at first. She stared into my eyes for a minute or two, smiled and then said "Okay, I believe you. He's in bed 23. Go straight down the hall, then take the 3rd left and he's the 3rd bed in that area, alright. I hope he's okay."

"Thank you." I replied.

When we got there I was shocked. He looked terrible, sorry as I am to say. He didn't have his top on either. His normally toned body looked flat and lifeless and covered in blood. I really felt upset when I saw him. He had so many wires attached to him, a breathing machine that was keeping him alive and a blood pressure machine to the side of him. He looked like some kind of experiment in a science lab, but instead we're in a hospital.

A doctor came out with a clipboard and told me "So you must be Dan's girlfriend."

"Yes I am. How is he, doctor?"

"Well, he's not doing too bad. We want to get him breathing normally without the machine helping him. We're about to get him stitched up. He's still unconscious so don't try to wake him. His injuries aren't too bad but he isn't stable enough to go home tonight. We'll keep him in to check him over throughout the night incase he wakes up or anything. Even though he is unconscious he may well be in a coma. If he's in a coma he can probably hear what we're saying. Don't worry though, I'll get a nurse to stitch him up now and we'll do a few tests and x rays to see if anything is broken or damaged. We need to get you checked over too, incase you're injured anywhere."

"Oh right. Well thanks for telling me. There will be someone to keep me up to speed with what's going on right? I really need to know he's okay."

"Yes, of course there will be. As soon as we've got the results back for his tests or if he shows movement then we'll let you know straight away. I'm Dr Carter and I'll Dan's doctor for his time here at City Hospital. Now come on, let's get you checked over. Nurse! Take her to a free bed. Maybe one near Dan's, if there are any free."
