Preparations for True War

Adam had prepared for fighting before, back as a knight, but it was never for anything as serious as this. The last time he had done this, he had sharpened a sword and helped other guards put on armor. It was to defend a gate of the kingdom from a few assassins, nothing too crazy. This time, he was fighting with his closest friends to defend the entire world, and he could not be sure who would make it out alive.

He was with the other male Elementals, making sure they were all ready. The girls were in a separate room while Ashlie kept track of them. Looking around the changing room, he noticed something that had not been there before. There were six sets of armor of superb quality, a note tied around the gray set. He carefully dislodged the note from the arm, unfolding it gently to not rip it.

We may not be able to be with you now, but all of us wish you the best of luck. This is a surprise for all ten of you, strong sets of armor that should help defend you against the Corrupted Masters. Do not worry about the weight of them, though I know you can handle it, Adam. Each set has been enchanted to be light so they do not obstruct you during the battle.

Please help keep them safe, as I know you have a stronger background in battle than any other member of Generation 2. We believe in all of your abilities as we have watched you all grow into professional fighters and wonderful people. Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.

Sincerely,

Jason of Generation 1

Adam had almost forgotten that they had left, but he was delighted to hear from them again. He called the boys over, gesturing to the armor sets and explaining what the letter had said. Then, he went over to the girl's room and knocked on the door, leaning against it. Ashlie's calm voice replied, though muffled.

"What do you want Adam?"

"There should be four sets of armor in there, one for each of you. Generation 1 wrote a letter and gave us them as a surprise."

"Got it. Go help the others out."

As he was walking back to the boy's room, he heard Shelby's high-pitched voice as she found the armor sets. Stifling his laughter, he went back to finish getting ready.

Ross followed the others outside after they were ready. He was taking deep breaths, trying to calm himself from potential impending doom. He could do this, they had trained for years to handle this. Walking beside him, Max squeezed his hand. It was his small way of checking on Ross without speaking. Smiling slightly, he squeezed his hand in return. Ross' eyes darted away from his warm hand as Dawn snapped him back to reality.

"I hate to be the bearer of bad questions, but how are we supposed to know where to go? We did not get a map to locate the fight."

Katrina smiled slyly, an annoying habit of hers, as she always seemed to be aware of unanswered questions.

"Three, two, one..."

Right as she was about to finish the countdown, a crow overhead dropped a paper, stained at the corner with blood. Ross was especially terrified when the note started talking.

"Come to the center of Laco Forest to meet your fates. The area has been cleared so that our fight will be unimpeded. I cannot wait to meet each of you, so we can all tear you to shreds. Have a safe journey, as we would not like your deaths to be too easy..."

Wishing You Unwell,

Sauda of Vulgarity

He did not want to know what they had meant by 'clearing' the area. Besides, Vulgarity? What kind of a power was that?

Katrina replied as if she knew what they were thinking.

"Vulgarity is the opposite of Beauty, which is my mom's power. She is probably the leader of the Corrupted Masters. Their other powers probably work in the same way."

Although he was concerned, it put Ross' mind at ease a bit. At least they would have an idea of what they were up against. If Katrina's theory was correct, their powers would be Vulgarity, Deviation, Spite, Doubt, Wisdom, Devotion, Paranoia, Unconsciousness, Indecision, and Despair. Not easy powers to fight against, but it left them with a bit less of a disadvantage. After all, the Corrupted Masters definitely knew what their powers were.

Ross could tell they had made it by the scorched trees lining either side of the path. Before them stood ten people, each dressed in red and black. Their smiles were unnerving, like their hands were clawing into his soul. The black-haired woman smirked and bowed. She was probably the leader, as no one else did so.

"Hello, Elementals. We have been waiting for you. But oh, where are my manners?! I am Sauda of Vulgarity, and I have waited with exhilaration for this moment."

Max and Cory both glared back at her, while the rest of us stood either nervously or dumbfounded.

"Let me introduce you to my associates. This is Cozbi of Deviation, Hala of Spite, Jezebeth of Doubt, Samara of Wisdom, Sethen of Devotion, Phobus of Paranoia, Samael of Unconsciousness, Gabriel of Indecision, and Acheron of Despair. Know that they are as delighted to meet you as I am."

It was certainly not lovely to meet them. We have no idea how they fight, much less which one of us they will target. No matter what, we need to stick together. None of us will forgive ourselves if one of us dies.

"Now that we are done with the introductions, all manners have been applied to this battle. We may fight now. If you all get too scared to die, you know how to leave."

She cackled menacingly as she spoke. Sauda was daring us to leave. Looking at everyone, their faces shown with determination. They would not back down. Neither would I. Even if we did, they would probably just find us and kill us anyway.

"Let the battle begin, my dear puppets!"
