The next day we had sports and maths. Sport was taught by Munch. Munch had once served in the military and even trained soldiers there. And that was exactly how he ran the classes.

Anyone who didn't do exactly what he wanted or how he wanted it was yelled at or made to do even more exercises. And that' s what he did when he was in a good mood.

This time we had the choice between climbing and swimming. Daisy signed up for swimming. What else? Daisy was a natural swimmer. She had even told me that she swam in a team at home and had also taken part in competitions. Water was her true element. I had watched her swim in the ocean a few times and had to admit that she was really good.

Surprisingly, Avery signed up for climbing just like me. I had actually expected her, like Daisy, to prefer swimming instead of hoisting herself up into the nearest tree. I wasn't much of a climber myself. But I preferred it a million times to swimming. I didn't trust water very much.

The boys also signed up for swimming for the most part, except for Liam and Niall.

While Munch's partner supervised the swimmers and recorded the times of how fast they swam the distances, our task was definitely more difficult.

We had to climb up a tree, then dangle ourselves along a thick rope that was stretched about 40 feet to the next tree and then climb up a bit higher in the next tree to get a flag down.

Oh, and by the way, we weren't secured. Besides, the rope was tied up about 8 feet above the ground. There were only a few places where mats had been laid down to catch you if you fell off the rope. It didn't really help if you fell between the mats.

I had already watched a few people who were ahead of me and Avery. So far no one had made it near the rope. But if someone fell off the rope in the wrong place, the worst that could happen was that they would break their neck. Avery was three people behind me. She was looking a little nervously too at the parkour. I was curious to see how she would do on the climb.

Niall was on before me.

When it was his turn, I felt my knees weaken. I was aware that many people hadn't even made it to the rope, but I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of the others. Niall did make it to the rope, but fell off after a few feet and luckily landed on one of the mats.I drew a sigh of relief. If he had fallen just a few more inches before, he would have crashed to the forest floor. However, the mats didn't seem to bounce very well either as Niall was slow to get up and then held his arm where he had landed.

"Quever, your turn!", Munch barked at me.

I took a deep breath and began to run. I jumped and with the swing I had, caught the lowest branch with one hand. I immediately grabbed it with the other hand and pulled myself upwards. When I was safely on the lowest branch, I wanted to grab the next branch, but I didn't have enough speed and couldn't get hold of the branch. So I lost my balance and fell from the tree.

The impact sent incredible pain through my back. Fortunately, I hadn't been so far up the tree that I was seriously injured.

"Another clumsy idiot! Get up Quever! Clear the way for the next one!", Munch snapped at me as I slowly sat up. Slowly I braced myself and walked back to the very back of the line.

As I passed Avery, she asked, "Hey, are you okay?"

I just ignored her and kept walking.

When it was Avery's turn, I expected her to make it about as far as I did. But then I got a surprise.

Avery climbed up the tree as if she had never done anything else. Like a monkey, she hoisted herself up the branches and quickly reached the rope. When she got there, she looked hesitantly at the ground for a moment. Obviously, the lack of some of the mats on the ground also made her reconsider.
