When Roxanne said that Ed would think again about our offer, I didn't believe her. He seemed so overwhelmed by our request that it looked to me as if he would refuse to help us from the start.

But Roxanne had already proved several times that she was the smartest of us all.

The next day, while we were thinking about how best to inflict the injuries without affecting the escape, Roxy was already one step ahead. She was already planning the escape, of the next three people.

I was scheduled with her that day to fetch water. Either to supply the other teenagers and counselors with water or to do the washing up outside. In the meantime, we ate outside, as Hempton wanted to finish the renovation of the cabins as quickly as possible. While Roxanne filled a large plastic tub with water from the canister, I collected the dirty dishes and threw them into the second tub.

"Wouldn't it be better if only two of us escaped? I mean, the sooner we turn Hempton in the better," I asked Roxy quietly.

"Hempton will panic if someone disappears and he doesn't know where to look. He'll interrogate each and every one of us and punish us if he has to," she explained to me.

"And in what way is that good?"

"Well, if we get our phones back, we can document the abuse. The more evidence the better."

"That's all well and good, Roxy, but still...why isn't it enough for just two of us to escape?", I echoed.

Roxy considered for a moment before brushing a strand of red hair behind her ear.

"You know, two young criminals might not be listened to that much. But when six or eight are coming forward, it's a different story. That's when you really start to suspect that something can't be right when so many are running away. Besides, we are a team, aren't we?"

She looked at me, waiting, and I nodded.

"Yeah, sure we are."

"Okay, you know, I'm not good at this, but we started this together, right? So, we should all finish it together too."

I knew it sounded idealistic and naive, but I understood why she saw it that way. We were a team. We had all planned this thing, so we all deserved to escape from here. No one should have to wait to be rescued.

"Well, then the two-man escape becomes plan B for now, okay?", I suggested.

She nodded at me. Then Ed suddenly stepped up beside us and eyed the canister of our water, giving Roxy and me a hostile look.

"What are you doing? Are you washing our dishes with dirty water now?" he asked suddenly irritated.

Confused, I stared at him. What the hell was his problem?

"The water is clean. We just fetched it," I argued.

"Bullshit, Collins, there's dirt all over it, see?", Ed said aggressively and before I knew it he was throwing a big lump of dirt into the water canister.

Roxy leapt to her feet. Her blue eyes sparkled angrily at Ed and her hands were clenched into fists.

"What the fuck, Sheeran?!" she hissed at him.

I noticed a few people already looking over at us, including Hempton. Hastily, I stood and pulled Roxy back a little.

"Calm down, Roxy. It's not worth it!", I muttered to her.

"Get some new water and get it now!", Ed growled at us.

"Is there a problem here?", Hempton had stepped up to us and looked at us with an inspecting gaze.
