I had already been surprised that both Louis and Zayn had changed their minds and wanted to join in our breakout. But that Roxanne had really changed her mind surprised me even more.
Avery told me later that Louis had said to her that he would come too. Zayn had approached me. I had just been fetching water for the counselors at one of the sinks when he suddenly appeared next to me.
"Are you still in?" he asked quietly and it took me a few seconds to understand what he meant.
"Yes," I then answered quietly as well.
Since we were standing right outside the washrooms, we had no way of knowing if anyone else might be around.
"Tell her I'm in too."
I nodded and Zayn disappeared into the boys' bathroom. When I told Avery, her eyes lit up with excitement.
"That would make almost everyone in now. I never thought so many would change their minds."
"Well, maybe all you need is the right motivation."
After Roxy had still said yes too, that left only Niall. And Linda, too, actually. But she seemed determined to serve her sentence in full and not endanger herself or her baby. I respected her decision but hoped for her sake that she would somehow get through the next 6 months without anything happening to her or the baby. However, the way Hempton was acting at the moment, I believed that was more wishful thinking.
As for Niall, I was pretty sure that if Roxy said she was in, he would come too.
Roxanne made us wait until the next evening before she sat around the campfire with us all and presented her idea.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we all know why we are here and the risk we are taking. So, if anyone has changed their mind, get up now and go to bed early tonight. Nothing personal. I like all of you, but I have to say that probably in some places it could be quite dangerous for us. And unfortunately we can't risk all of us being laid up because someone cracks and snitches. Because then we're all on it and our extension time, is going to be the worst time of our lives. So, does anyone want to quit?" she asked.
For a moment there was silence. However, since no one rose or said anything else, the consent was clear.
"Right, well, I don't have an exact escape plan yet, of course, though I've got a lot further than Avery did with her few days, no offense."
"That's okay," Avery replied nonchalantly.
"So, if we're going to get out of here, we not only have to figure out how to get out of here. We also have to ask ourselves the "where?", "when?" and "what?" Questions," Roxy then explained.
"What do you mean?" asked Niall, a little confused.
"Well, assuming we manage to get out of the camp, where exactly are we going? Because I don't think we can all make it to the UK or Amsterdam by foot in one day, can we?"
Not only Avery, but also Liam and I were blushing. I hadn't even thought about that yet.
"Before we go back, we need some place where we can hide safely for a few days. There should definitely be a computer there with access to the internet so I can book us all tickets home without danger."
"You mean you want to hack?" asked Louis with raised eyebrows.
"That's right," Roxy replied provocatively.
"You do realize that's why you're in here too?"
"Louis, sweetie, I mean this in a completely non-judgmental way, but I'm clearly the smartest one of all of us here and I also know why I changed my mind about this plan. I got your files from Hempton's computer and found that he plans to keep us all here even longer."
