The clicking of the buttons and the constant ringing of the phones almost drove me crazy. The moment Harry and I had entered the police station and given our names at the registration desk, complete chaos had broken out at the police station. I was a missing person and had reappeared after weeks. Apparently, this is the signal in the police station to just drop everything and wildly start calling around and pounding the keyboard of one's computer.
After all, we had been told that two detectives would take care of our request as soon as possible.
Harry and I sat on two incredibly uncomfortable metal chairs in a corridor and had been waiting for 10 minutes for someone to speak to us. Harry had his arm around my shoulder and I could feel the exhaustion of our long journey slowly catching up with me.
"Miss Collins," a young policewoman with a strong Dutch accent addressed us.
I looked up.
"Your parents have been notified. They are on their way here," the policewoman said.
"Thank you," I said with a sincere smile.
The thought of seeing my parents soon lifted an endless weight from my shoulders. Finally. Finally, I would see them again. Strange how six weeks could feel like an eternity.
"Mr. Styles, we've notified your mother as well. She's on the next plane to see you."
"Is my sister coming too?"
The policewoman nodded.
"I think so."
The policewoman left again and we were alone with our thoughts. Harry smiled with relief and took his hand and squeezed it.
"And you said it was impossible to get out of there," I grinned triumphantly.
Harry rolled his eyes laughing and pulled me closer to him.
"You're going to hold that over me forever now, aren't you?"
I giggled.
"At least for a while," I replied mischievously.
"Next time you'll go home alone."
"You'd miss me too much," I grinned cheekily.
"Are you sure about that?"
"You've followed me all the way here, even though you've only known me for a few weeks. I think that's a pretty strong sign."
"You're lucky I like you," Harry murmured, burying his face in my hair.
"Whatever you say, Styles."
Harry's closeness and warmth made me doze off with my head on his shoulder after only a few minutes. And what can I say, even though this position was uncomfortable, I would have preferred to never get up again.
And even though I must have been dozing snuggled up to Harry for ten minutes, it seemed like a few seconds when I suddenly heard a familiar voice.
"Avery?"
I opened my eyes and looked in the direction the voice had come from. My mother was standing just a few feet away from me and Harry. Behind her, I could make out Dad. Immediately I was wide awake and jumped to my feet. My parents came towards me and then Mum hugged me so tightly that I involuntarily flinched. Although the bruises on my body had healed well, they still hurt quite a bit in some places. I ignored it. I was so incredibly happy to see my parents again that I almost cried.
"Oh my god, baby. Where have you been? We were so worried," my mother said, sounding immensely relieved and at the same time like she was going to cry at any moment.
