Chapter 18
Nakatingin pa rin ako sa kawalan. Unti-unti nang nagdidilim. Nakakatakot mahulog. Takot akong masaktan. But I've always wanted to be loved. Gustong-gusto ko maranasang magmahal... at mahalin pabalik. And Altair... he's someone I would risk for. I'll gladly risk everything for him. The problem is that I am not his girl. But if ever that I'll finally love someone, I wish he would be someone like Altair. He's my own definition of a man.
"Ma'am, Sir, ready na po ang dinner set-up n'yo. This way po," saad ng staff at iginiya niya sa'min ang daan.
Altair held my hand as we go to the place. It's so beautiful and romantic. It's like a wooden tent decorated with warm light, balloons and rose petals. The table is just about a foot above the ground. Pillows lang ang nagsisilbing upuan. Mayroon ding nakahandang sunflower bouquet sa may table. There's also candle light in the table. This is so special. Altair then gestured me to sit. He gave me the bouquet of sunflower.
I smelled the fragrance of the flower. "Thank you," I mouthed.
"So, do you like it? I planned for this even before our graduation," he said while I'm enjoying the romantic set-up.
"You did? It's... it's so beautiful. Thank you so much for making this day special," I told him, almost a whisper.
"Let's eat?" There's lasagna for me and carbonara for him. May steak din at wine.
"I'm sure you'll love their lasagna, it's your favorite pasta," he said that made me look at him.
"How did you know that lasagna is my favorite?"
He chuckled softly. "You're so cute. Of course, I'm trying by best to know every inch of you."
I blinked my eyes, still in awe because of his remark. Damn you, Jake altair for making my senses this crazy with just your simple words. Kumain na kami. While eating, we talk about some random things. We looked back on how our friendship started.
"Remember the first time we met?" Tumango siya. "I was using my phone that time then I almost fell on the stairs!" I laughed remembering that clumsiness of mine. Who would think that because of that, I unexpectedly found a best friend.
"Good thing I saw you that time. Ano kaya kung hindi kita sinalo, 'no? Text pa more, siz." I pouted with what he said but he just pinched my cheek.
"Wow, siz. Didn't know you're using that call sign. I was texting either Mom or Kuya Zyrus that time!" I defended myself.
"Okay, then." He looked at me intently. "But that wasn't the first time we met."
My brows furrowed. "R-Really? How?"
"First day of classes of my first year in college, a girl came to me with her friend to ask where is the engineering building. Hindi ko alam kung saan 'yon pero itinuro ko ang building na katabi ng building namin," he narrated.
My eyes widened when I realized what he is talking about. "Damn. That was you?!" He laughed at my reaction. Parang gusto ko nang kainin ng lupa. I was that girl and the friend he's pertaining to is Cindy. He was standing against the wall that time like he's waiting for someone.
"Yeah, that was me. So, alam mo na kung kailan tayo unang nagkita."
After a while, he told the staff to serve the dessert. It's a coffee crumble ice-cream and a slice of blueberry cheesecake. He observes me really well. I look at him at bit my lower lip.
