Chapter 36
That's it. It all started with that little interaction at hindi niya na ako tinigilan. I initially thought that she's just doing everything for fun. But I was wrong. We became bestfriends. I got to know her deeper and deeper each day. I became her crying shoulder. We became study buddies. And honestly, it made me fall deeper for her. Malapit na ang graduation namin. I thought this is the time to finally ask her out.
"Ma, do you really think that she'll like this?" I asked, showing the necklace I bought for Trixie.
Tumawa siya saglit. "She'll love it, Altair! Pero paalala lang, ha. Graduation gift 'yan, hindi monthsary gift. First date, hindi anniversary date."
I did not even see this coming. I never thought that I would do this for the girl I like.
I was too shy to give it to her while all of our friends and other students are watching.
"Uhm, Trixie. I have a gift for you." I scratched the tip of my nose, feeling shy now. "This is not too much but I think it's really special."
"Of course it's special. Basta galing sa'yo," she replied in a small voice.
I pulled out of my pocket the small box containing the necklace. Binuksan niya agad. She starred at the necklace with awe.
She blinked twice. "Oh my gosh! Thank you so much! Can you wear it to me now?" She looks so excited but her voice is still soft and soothing.
I nodded and wore the necklace around her neck. My hands were shaking a bit because of the unexplainable feeling I have whenever she's around.
"I also have a gift for you. I hope you like it." She handed me a small box.
Inside the box is a pair of t-square cufflinks. "This... this is so beautiful. Thank you so much, Trixie. I'll always wear this." My lips parted in awe and I smiled. I bit my lip to stop my self from smiling too much.
I had the urge to ask her for the date but my tongue seems to stuck. It took me a few moments before I finally said it.
"Ah, by the way, can I invite you for a dinner for your birthday next week?"
"Uhm, of course. Are you inviting me for a dinner date?"
The side of my lips rose upon hearing her response. "Yes, I am inviting you for a date. Would you approve it?"
"Y-You're a-asking me for a date?" she muttered.
"Yes. But that's if it's fine with you."
She cleared her throat. "Yes. I'd love to have a date with you on my birthday," she finally said after a moment of silence, giving me a sweet smile.
"Altair, ang pangit ng pag-aya mo ng date! You did not even bother to use some flowery words!" reklamo ni Zach habang nakain kami ng burger.
Drei laughed and tapped his shoulder. "Igagaya mo pa sa'yo si Altair. Ikaw ba, may pumayag nang makipag-date sa'yo?" Umiling-iling pa siya kaya lalong nainis si Zach.
"I only use flowery words in my articles but not with the girl I like," I said.
"Iba talaga ang feature writer ng school! Nasa feature writer ang forever!"
